I wonder if it'll incorporate being able to watch 3D movies without the need of a 3D TV. Besides the gaming I would get it just for that. I know Netflix has an app for the Gear VR so I imagine they'll probably want to jump in on this too. But yeah count me in on the jealous wagon. Hopefully they'll have a Black Friday special for it. Might consider it then if it's still reasonably priced.
Hulu has a VR app already. I haven't tried it yet, but I think the content on there is full on VR video where you can move your head and look at any part of it. Like there's a snippet of a boxing match, and I think it's supposed to be like you're actually sitting in the front row. I'm sure they can do regular 3D movies too. They also have a Cinema mode where you can do pretty much anything on your PS4 (Netflix, games, etc) on a virtual cinema screen. Like you're sitting in a theater and you have a massive screen in front of you. Again, due to the resolution of the headset, it won't be as crystal clear as actually playing on a real high-end TV, but it's already pretty decent and I can imagine in a few years it will be almost indistinguishable from a real screen.
PSVR is very intriguing to me, if I could afford it I would absolutely get it just to be able to try this new technology out. The good thing about Sony's version is that they have developers to make the games while the Vive or the Oculus need third party developers. I'd honestly wait for a second iteration down the line, hopefully by then they'll work out all the kinks and what not. And hopefully by then, they'll more than scratch the service of VR game wise and they'll be some crazy titles available.
I can't get excited for Nintendo anymore. Last Nintendo console I bought was the Wii, even after the GameCube had such poor support and like 1 game of each top franchise only. I can't get excited about yet another Mario, Mario Kart, Zelda, Smash Bros, etc. This seems for hardcore Nintendo fans only, otherwise these games have played the same with better graphics for years, Mario Kart being the biggest example. The last Mario that really wowed me was Galaxy and I did love Sunshine, but after that the emphasis on old school gameplay over graphics lost me, too simplistic. Instead of making amazing 3D big open world Mario's with next gen graphics power they fought progress and went backwards. The 3DS was fun and has some nice gameplay gimmicks, and I played the Wii U plenty at my uncle's house, but it too was the same old same old with a new gimmick. I guess I've just outgrown Nintendo, and really I'm pretty picky about console gaming in general right now, PS4 and Xbox are becoming PCs, console gaming as we knew it is dying and this IMO is the worst console generation maybe ever. On the other hand I still play my PS3 daily, and PSone and PS2 games on it, where it's almost a chore to boot up the PS4 or XBone.
Why do you find the PS4 a chore? Press home button, choose game? Just curious. But agree with you with Nintendo, not sure why they refuse to move on, imagine open world Metroid/Mario.
I think he meant that he doesn't enjoy the games on this generation this much so its almost like he's forcing himself to play his PS4 just to get use out of it. Personally I disagree though. This generation still feels relatively young. It's unfair to compare it to the backlog of the greatest games of three previous generations. Off the top of my head, some of the best games of last generation were Red Dead Redemption, Skyrim, GTA 5, and The Last of Us. They didn't come out till 4-7 years after the PS3 came out. The PS4 hasn't even been out for 3 years yet and has had several great games already.
That's pretty much it, there are like 5-10 games I enjoy on PS4, so I just can't be bothered to boot it up half the time. That and there's always friggin updates. I use my PS3 for so much, I have so many downloaded movies and tv shows and pics and music on the hard drive it's like a computer, I use it for Netflix and YouTube. PS4 has that too, but it's all right there in PS3 already, plus the controller battery life lasts for days instead of half a day so if I binge watch a show I don't have to switch controllers. I'm one lazy dude. As for this generation being young, I'd strongly disagree, this generation is almost over. If you believe rumors of a PS5 in 2018 and that Scorpio will be as powerful as they say, that's the next gen right around the corner. Sure they'll still play Xbox one and PS4 games like a new PC, but it'll be a new gen, and a short and disappointing one this one will have been. I like platformers, racers, adventure games, stuff PS3 had tons of, while for my taste the PS4 hardly has a single good racing game and the xbone has 2 (Forza Horizon 2 & 3). It's just been a disappointing generation if you care about anything other than graphics over story/substance. We've gotten 1 Uncharted, 1 Halo, lots of sequels, tons of shooters and sports games. Just boring to me, but again, also just my opinion. Oh and lastly, too be fair, I've read articles pointing out that a normal console cycle is 5 years. The economy and slow start of the PS3 (insane price) forced them to have a 7 year life and then for PS4 and Xbone they were already behind technology wise when they launched, so of course they're having to do mid cycle refreshes now to even try and keep up with PC and 4K and such.
Time is flying though. I can't keep up with all these consoles and games. I find mobile games more entertaining than most games nowadays. That and FIFA.
Same, aside from my PS3 I play more games on my iPhone and iPad than anything else. There are lot of great mobile games these days, some very creative ones, and the graphics continue to get better and better. If they had a decent controller that most games supported for mobile games I'd get that and it'd be a whole new ballgame.
I'm with you now, I definitely feel like there were a LOT more games for the last gen, which might be because of how long they have been out, but there were so many not just good games but franchises of games for the last gen consoles which just hasn't translated over yet imo.
Yeah, the iphones are already at PS1 level graphics for some bigger games like FIFA. I'm playing a lot of Clash Royale lately and recently spent money on it, something I didn't think I'd actually do. But I play it enough, I might as well.
Right now I'm playing the Witcher 3, I couldnt get into 1 and didn't have the patience for 2 either but this is quite the massive game. I tried the Oculus and the Vive, and they are so impressive at first but the thing is the weaknesses start to show up and for how insanely pricey they are and the lack of games, I returned both of them. It's just not all the way there yet. The god rays for one thing happened on both headsets, where these long aura like lights surround different graphics. There's the nose gap which is designed for comfort but can take you out of immersion seeing your feet while in another world in VR. Some games aren't fully optimized so I have gotten queasy before. The wait of the headsets bear down on you too. The PS4 one is worse in about every way, though I haven't tried it but thats what the specs and awful PS move controllers do. The VR movies and videos though are pretty excellent and impressive.
I've been playing Battlefield1 on Xbox for the last couple of weeks. Great game, but I suck hard at it, so I'm not sure how long I'll play it.
I'm playing the Witcher 3 as well.. I gotta say, the side quests and Witcher contracts, not only do they add to the scale of the game, but the substance, and legitimate process of developing memorable characters and stories is astounding... The witches of crookbag bog, the mission "wild at heart" really stick out for me.... "O Jenny in the woods" is another that comes directly into mind, these are side quests that really make the game that much more immersive and playable....
It shows how great of a game it is that I know which missions you're talking about by name. I did a sidequest the other day randomly thinking I hadn't seen other Witchers around yet and bam in the random throw away side quest I met another Witcher. I liked the ones you mentioned, the witches of crookbag were creepy as hell, Jenny in the woods was a bummer and the entire Baron story was fascinating (like "Family Matters"). "Nameless" leading into "The Calm Before the Storm" was another cool one . Are you nearly done? I just did a big battle near the end, not done yet maybe about 80% through with the main missions but this past mission I did was my favorite one thus far. Many screenshotable moments.
I've done the Witcher 3, its one of the only games my partner would sit through and watch she enjoyed it that much. Then I heard Blood and Wine DLC is basically another full game and also amazing so im going to get it next.
I was thinking what game I should get for this Black Friday, and I think you've all convinced me to do Witcher 3
