Started playing a bit more. It's cool but the app is so unstable. Seems like half the time I find a Pokemon, the app crashes when it finally gets in the Pokeball. And then I want to try and make some rounds and walk by some Pokestops, but I literally have to stand and wait by the Pokestop because if I try to get the rewards while walking by, by the time it actually loads, I'm already out of range. And I don't really get the gyms. I battled a gym controlled by another team and defeated all their Pokemon but after the battle, they still had control. Not sure if it was a glitch or something.
One of the major problems is I have spend most of my day in front of a screen. I don't have a ton of time to walk around. This game though could encourage me to change my workout runs from a treadmill to the streets which sounds really fun.
This is the biggest thing about Pokemon Go. It's getting you to go outside, walk around, meet new people.... just be aware of your surroundings and not be stupid. TMobile is going to start offering their customers free data when using the app and I'm sure the other companies will pick up on it too. I stand by my original statement, this is a game changer.
I understand what it's for and it's great for nerds like me who can't get out and about enough, but it also means I'm going to have a hard time improving in the game. Right now I'm stuck on level 3 and there's just no Pokemon around my office or home.
I really don't see this as a game changer. If it didn't have the Pokemon name attached to it, nobody would care about it because the game itself lacks substance. Getting people out of the house, exercising, and all that is cool, but at a certain point you're just walking around catching the same Pokemon because apparently they're localized to the type of area you're in. I'm not going to drive to the beach just to collect water Pokemon, and I'm not going to continue playing this for weeks just to catch more Zubats and Ekans while walking around my neighborhood. It's already started happening, but in a week or so the gyms are going to be dominated by people who spend way too much time playing and the casual gamer won't stand a chance against their overpowered Pokemon. Not to take away from your enjoyment of the game. I'm having some fun with it right now too (would be having a lot more fun if it wasn't so buggy). But personally I think it's a fad and within a month there won't be too many people playing.
This is genius, I want one. $60 for a lot of classic great games, cool little NES design, uses HDMI http://www.theverge.com/2016/7/14/12187296/nintendo-nes-classic-edition-announced-price-games
Different strokes for different folks. But besides all the bad news headlines you hear on the local news networks, theres a lot of good that goes unreported. There is a local mom and pop bakery near me that has seen a huge increase in customers cause its a pokestop. A friend who is overweight and a home body has been seen walking around his neighborhood. I've met a lot of wonderful people at parks and my go to boba shop, its easy to talk to someone when you already share a common interest. Those among other things are why its a game changer in my eyes. Sure it could very well end up being a fad that will go away soon but that's for people who jumped on the fad to begin with. Pokemon will always have a following for current mid 20s people, it was a big part of our childhood. And as they add more content there will be more things to do. You can still be underleveled and use the gyms, you can help defend them and train there to gain experience. My only complaints so far are the bugs and crashed servers. And all the dumb people not being aware of their surroundings and those that are treating the teams like they are gangs.
So apparently Niantic is a terrible game company that doesn't take advice from their fanbase or even attempt to communicate with them. This is what people have been saying about them about their previous games and now it's becoming apparent with Pokemon Go too. There has been a bug for weeks where all nearby Pokemon have 3 footsteps so it's impossible to actually track them. They released an update ... And instead of fixing it they just got rid of the footsteps completely. So now it's not about going out hunting for Pokemon, it's about walking and hoping you randomly get lucky and find a Pokemon. The sad part is that, whether intentional or not, this will encourage less walking as now the only efficient way of catching Pokemon is going to a Pokestop and dropping a lure... Interestingly, they're about to start having sponsored Pokestops. So now instead of being a game about exploring your community and tracking down interesting Pokemon ... It's gonna become a game about going to the sponsored Pokestop at McDonald's where everyone will be sitting around eating burgers while they wait for Pokemon to come to the lure.
My friend has caught 130 of the pokemon from just outside his flat, which is absolutely ridiculous, I thought it would be more about exploring rather than being able to find all of them in one spot using lures etc. Also apparently you can play it on your PC without ever actually having to leave your house, you move your character with a D-Pad.
Finally finished Uncharted 4. It was gorgeous and the gameplay was even more refined. The story also seemed more serious. Awesome game, but the ending did feel a little rushed. Also, finally beat Final Fantasy VIII. I had tried playing it like 12 years ago but I lost my PlayStation memory card when I was near the end. So I finally finished it, and it might be one of my favorite Final Fantasy games just from the ending alone. So many theories about it and most of them are pretty trippy. On to Final Fantasy VII ... But the fact that I've played 4 Uncharted games and 3 lengthy Final Fantasy games already this summer makes me realize that I REALLY need to find another job soon
Really upset that the new game, No Man's Sky, isn't going to be released on Xbox One any time soon. Such a bummer...
