They'll probably look worse, yes. But normal games should work fine even as they prep for Neo. At least for a few years.

I don't pay $400 day one for "fine". I pay that for games that will run the best. Sony screwed fans here and early adopters, also adding in that ps4 als had like 5 good games in its first couple years. And this is coming from a long time PlayStation fan, as long as it's been around, I've got a PlayStation tattoo lol. It's bs, Sony realized their hardware was way behind PC, and that VR was gonna run like s*** on the system, so they made an update that screws over tens of millions of people who can't afford PS4.5.

    I think you're overreacting though. :D

It hasn't even released yet! And when it does, they've already announced the first few waves of games will work just like any other games have on PS4. The Neo isn't coming out until late this year which means we'll have roughly 4-5 years before s*** hits the fan and PS4 originals look obsolete.

I view this as being more like PS3 slim or the XBOX 1S that's coming out. They're just upgrades on the existing system, but the existing system will still work.

You're also overlooking a pretty great looking game selection they've got coming this year.

I'm not overreacting, you're underreacting. ;) We're not gonna agree on this, and that's fine. I'm pissed at spending $400 on inferior hardware, you aren't, to me it's a huge "F you" to fans, to you it isn't. And no, it isn't comparable to PS3 slim because that was simply a smaller PS3 with the same innards, not a system that is like 5 times more powerful. That's not an upgrade, it's just different casing. Sony can say they will make sure the games run just as well on both systems, but I don't buy that for a second. It's only a matter of time before developers get tired of making 2 different versions of PlayStation games and start wanting to make the best games possible on the more powerful ps4 and the older PS4 games start to suffer in framerate. I'm sure this is something PC gamers are used to and don't have an issue with, but as someone who has never played games on PC this is exactly what I never wanted to happen in the console world. They're merging, the line is blurring, it's awful to me.

My point is by the time developers hit that point we're at, what? 4-5 years down the road from the original release of the PS4? Then we're not all that far off from your timeline. If Neo was out say next month and the clock started ticking right away, I'm with you 100% of the way. The PS4 thus far has relied HEAVILY on Naughty Dog properties in my book. I haven't been in love with games like Witcher or Watch Dog so for me it's been mostly Uncharted, Last of Us, and 2K which isn't PS4 reliant.

I'm pretty excited about the upcoming lineup though and I think the PS4 will do fine for me until probably a year or two into Neo and by then I'll be ready to switch over.

Also I don't care much about VR... I'm not all that interested. I saw a couple of games that seem fun and interesting but I'm guessing the price point is going to be something I'm not willing to spend.

Well then by that logic though, they might as well hold off a year or 2 and just come out with PS5 instead of this "update". Then there is no confusion as to what system is what with the casual gamer, and developers don't have to compromise to fit games to an old system. Just have a regular 5-6 year console life, then release the super powerful PS5. This formula is screwed, it gets $400 out of customers every 3 years if they keep it up. I'm saying I can't afford that, that's my issue here. I don't care about VR either, at all, but I care about my Uncharted being the one with the best framerate, textures, and lighting.

From what I'm reading that might end up being their move honestly. They've already announced Neo which is a small upgrade of the PS4 (most people are calling it PS4.5). It was Sony's kind of lazy answer to the VR/4K situation. They made it that way to keep PS4 relevant as long as possible, but it comes off lazy because Microsoft blew that away with their Scorpio announcement.

The thing is Scorpio isn't ready for probably a year and a half (they say 13 months). So now Sony looks bad (which is exactly what you're feeling) even though Microsoft is doing the SAME thing with XBox 1S.

My guess is Sony was still working on something that'd be the PS5 but X-Box beat them to the punch and now they're scrambling.

That "Scorpio" thing won't be out before 2018. It's MS we're talking about ;). Sony will introduce the PS5 around that time too, so everyone (or mostly everyone) will be happy.

You have to be part of the industry or invited by someone who's in the industry. I believe passes are $995. I was invited by Microsoft as a member of the Windows Insider program. I got to meet the program director yesterday and everything.

I just finished the Talos Principle a couple of weeks ago. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys puzzles and a fascinating story line (plus it will likely be cheaper during the upcoming Steam Summer Sale).

Of course, the one game I keep coming back to is Basketball GM. It's fairly addicting to run a basketball franchise as the GM, and despite the limitations of the site, I still come back to it again and again.

Finished Uncharted 4. Very good end to the franchise. Disappointed by that btw but every good thing must come to an end. Personally I have it rated a very solid second behind Uncharted 2 followed by 3 and 1. Still very linear although some parts have a bit of open worldness to them where you can explore a bit. Enemies are smarter, they can be alerted to your presence if you're not careful; kind of like it does in Metal Gear Phanton Pain if you played it. As mentioned, not as hard as the others although I now have a strong distrust of mummies lol. Tread carefully around them.
Now that that's done anyone know any good RPGs that are coming out?

Just a heads up: the summer Steam sale is now live!

I haven't really browsed the sale too deeply, but the lack of flash sales has somewhat dampened my excitement this time around. Still, there are probably a lot of good deals to be had.

I haven't played an old school turn based RPG in a long time. Any recommendations I can get during the Steam Summer Sale?

Although this is not really an old school RPG in the traditional sense, Undertale is on sale right now and in fact I just purchased it earlier today after hearing much praise about it. I would recommend you pick it up too.

As for non-rpgs and other random games...

There's also a tabletop simulator that supports up to 12 players. Seems like a really interesting concept especially if you play it with a lot of other people. I didn't buy it myself though, not yet at least.

I also recommended Basketball GM as I linked in my previews post. It's browser based and 100% free. People have also created historical rosters and drafts for those who want to use actual players and not randomly generated ones. I find it strangely addicting and at times hilarious how well you can do.

If there are any Cards Against Humanity fans, they have an online version of the game that is browser based and free. You can even make custom cards for inside jokes. Lots of potential there too.

Portal 2 extremely cheap on steam, like 4.99 cheap. One of my favorite RPG game. Hilariously good voice acting, well for a robot. It's basically a puzzle game where you use a portal gun to find your way out of rooms. It gets progressively harder of course but there's always a solution even if you have to think outside the box which you will have to do on occasion. Highly recommend if you want your brain challenged.
