I have seen a couple of articles stating that he may be the outside defense we are craving. ????

He should definitely help if he stays healthy. Not as purely fast as Schroder, but very quick and similar size (a bit taller, stronger and heavier) ..... and physicality for the POA defense, able to maybe switch onto bigger guys? than Dennis, and maybe a better shooter from deep?

there were some good clips in his limited action from last year of him just being physical on defense and on the boards. we were missing that.

He's been good this preseason. He's also a good screener for a guard, IMO. He probably makes D-LO more expendable if he can stay healthy.

I'm a hedgehog guy but Gabe brings similar qualities and is a competitor. Honestly backcourt seems just fine for a good playoff team now? You need a good backup for Dlo but Dlo still bring you a lot of stuff (playmaking, shooting). Would have been nice to have this Gabe to throw at injured Murray last year. Unfortunately, Gabe was even more hurt.

If Knecht keeps improving you have your main guy Reaves with a lot of flexibility for matchups elsewhere

Just need another big forward that you can trust to switch on defense

You gotta like the bigger-by-a-lot version of him in Quincy Olivari then I would think. Last night was an eye opener for me seeing him really for the first time with some NBA players on the floor. Looked to be in the same zip code with Dennis speed wise on POA defense and getting where he wants to go on the floor with his dribble. But listed at 6' 3-4" (6'2.5" barefoot) 198 lbs of 23 year old mature muscle. Probably why he didn't get drafted .... the old "too old" thing, but just means he's more ready now. He was Xavier's best player last year averaging 19 points and shooting .409 from deep. Wasn't he the one they took the 2-way from to give it to Koloko? Or was that someone else? I like the French power forward on the 2-way and certainly Castleton, but maybe Olivari with that size, build, speed and physicality on POA defense PLUS the PG skills and shooting is more valuable for a 2-way than the Frenchie to make sure we hold onto him?

It was Hinson, not Olivari, the guy we waived to free up space for Koloko.

I liked Olivari too, but it was only one game and he was clearly hyped. A lot of players look good when they are in the zone. Curious to see what he does in the next couple of games

Is it just me, like legitimately asking, or does he just not seem like he likes it here very much? I dunno, I just get that vibe from him, like he feels like one of those players that wasn’t meant to be a Laker, never really took to it, and isn’t one for very long. He, and he’s not alone, doesn’t seem to be playing with much joy out there. Maybe it’s just the situation and how it feels like Nunn 2.0, just a feeling I can’t shake, feels like he’s on the permanent trade block and he knows it.

Yeah I think it's his groove. He's not a flashy guy and is comfortable in not having the ball and running plays, just does his job and be on the right stops.
He'll have games where you don't see him and will have others where he does 2 or 3 plays that win you a game.
He missed 71 games last year, he just needs to play at this point before we can judge him, imo

I only watched him in the playoffs, that was the first real extended look at him I’d ever had. Maybe I remember it wrong I just remember him being an energy guy so maybe I read that as him having more enthusiasm for that team, but it was the playoffs so of course the energy would be higher. But yeah I genuinely was asking because I’m curious. If this is just how he is that’s a bit of a relief.

As long as he plays solid defense and contributes occasionally with 8-10 points, I’m fine.
He’s a system player on offense and doesn’t have a wide range of “go-to” moves like the Hedgehog.
He’s a poor man’s D-Fish who has so far only showed out in one playoff run.
I think he will help this team out by the time they start clicking.

This could go in the JJ thread, but let's spread out the love. Nice shot by Gabe, even if JJ got him his only bucket of the game, lol.

I liked Vincent's play in Miami. Dogged defender even if he is slight in stature. Taking time off Ruby's minutes.

He’s not that slight. Undoubtedly he had time to work in the weight room while he couldn’t play, and looks solid for sure. He was listed at 6’4” and 200lbs in Miami.

We’re talking about faster POA defensive guards though too, like we lost with Schroder. Who went 6’1” and 170lbs. Gabe may not be that quick but he’s our quickest guard on POA.

He sucks. And he's not stopping anybody on the other end.

If we can find a trade for him, we should absolutely dump him for a better player at the same position.

Piss poor signing last summer that continues to underperform. Not to mention, we kept switching him onto bigger players that easily shot over him. Just a complete waste of a player.
