OK, but when's the last time a Top 1 or 2 pick was traded down by 3 or more spots?

If that's true, why wouldn't the Kings trade it themselves?

because it's the kings? or maybe they feel that they just value the pick more than any player they believe they could acquire thru trade

in all honesty though, i don't see a swap of picks between the lakers/kings taking place. this isn't a bad draft, and having two top 10 picks is pretty big for a franchise like the kings. drafting two guys like fox and markkanen or collins could really set the kings up for success

Yeah I'm not trying to be a jerk about it, I was genuinely wondering. It just seems like the Kings don't have a strong enough reason to make that move. Do they really think they have enough young talent? Hield? Cauley-Stein? Labissiere? Is that enough? Papagiannis? They need two players far more than we do.

Honestly if anything, they'd seem like a solid prospect for a #28/Deng dump kind of deal. They have very little salary and absolutely zero chance at attracting FAs. Worse than us even. Maybe worse than the Knicks even. I'd do #28/Deng for Afflalo/McLemore right now. Afflalo is non-guaranteed and McLemore is expiring.

because they feel they have room for more youngsters? because they love someone at 10? because paul george won't re-sign with them anyway? teams have different needs/interests

    or that.

oh, and someone implied earlier that the lakers having good scouting means they'll be locked in on someone at 2 ahead of time. i don't doubt that they'll have a preferred order, but it's about degrees. if you don't see a superstar, but instead see three very comparable talents, you should be open to moving down and picking up other assets.

in any case, we might know a lot more after the draft. IF the kings offered 5 and 10 for 2, and the lakers declined, it's because they really believe their pick is special, imo.

yeah that's why i think the kings will just keep their picks

if they were willing to take #28 and Deng in exchange for $1 I'd hope the lakers would make that trade. anything to get deng off the books

If they have a need for more youngsters, then why trade two of them to us? :D

I'm just saying I don't understand their end of the bargain. If they're willing to offer, I'm willing to listen.

I don't recall two meals with a prospect before, and definitely haven't heard this about other prospects. It will be interesting to see if that happens with other top draft pick prospects we bring in.

As I understand it, the Lakers are flying up to Sacramento to see Josh Jackson work out. So... that'd take some extra effort on our part to eat twice with him.

This is the NBA, not the NFL. The top tier premium draft prospects are worth so much more than the next tier or two down. No way in hell you flip #2 for #5 or #10. There is a chasm between the 2nd & 5th picks in terms of prospect ceiling.

Take the premium prospect at #2 and hope you can develop him into an All-Star.
