there are two general classes of response here. my response would be: i agree. there's no guarantee his outstanding passing translates to the pro game, and there should be legitimate concern that he'll require a very specific system in order to maximize his potential. and, as real said, he's super skinny. kidd was a physical guard. really physical. had he not been, his career would have been very different, imo.

the other response is: shut up your dumb.

yeah, those deals certainly kill now, especially since it seems the lakers are back on the FA map. then again, had they not made those terrible deals, maybe there would not have been regime change, and FAs would still be allergic to the lakers.

and really, i can't get up in arms. i wanted the lakers to commit to some veterans on long term deals. and they did. just not the ones i wanted (especially deng--i had three other sf/pf types ahead of him...but anyway). still, the strategy was in line with my hopes at the time.

yeah, the flexibility and leverage that would come with dropping deng for nothing would be huge.

If the Lakers really love Dennis Smith, Jr. so much, then you see if you can get #5 & #10 from Sacramento and make that swap. I like Smith, and would actually bet he has a better career than Fox when all is said & done, but I don't like taking him at #2.

Forgot to address the passing part of that post: I don't see how it doesn't translate unless he's on a team of guys that don't like having fun. I mean the game is so much easier when everyone passes the ball and having a guard on the team, the guy who is supposed to run things, who is so over the top willing to move the ball, makes things easier. Ball makes the easy passes constantly and consistently as well as the occasional flashy pass. I don't see anything physically keeping Ball from being what he was in college from a gameplay standpoint and how it translates to the next level. The mentality stays the same.

We've had the discussion, but the key difference won't be Lonzo, it'll be his teammates. Are they going to buy in at an appropriate level? Are they going to take his lead and move the ball accordingly? I think they will. Despite the recent smoke, to which I'm beginning to believe more and more that Magic could convince them to take Josh Jackson, I still think Lonzo is the best fit.

If they take Jackson it'll be because they're convinced he's a star capable of carrying the team... I don't share that belief, but I'll go with it if they go that direction.

Well he could have traded Ingram for Cousins and might have saved his job, so he went down with the ship in that respect. I'll always be grateful for what he did right and appreciate him putting the team first even till his last days.

Mitch has also turned down numerous opportunities to speak, which could have caused more drama and instead just quietly went about his life.

I still want Ball. His game is too perfect for what Luke wants for the guy initiating the offense.

But I don't think there is a huge gap between Ball and JJ OR DSJ. Learning about DSJs 48 inch vertical eases any pain about a trade down. Any trade scenario that nets us a PG more like Lillard than Magic while possibly dumping Deng AND nabbing a #10, while ALSO opening a second Max slot for next year is a win in my book.

I would be astounded if the Lakers could trade Deng and the #2 for #5. I don't see that happening. They'd definitely not get the #10 with it.

I get this, but how much of the same could have been said about Steph Curry when he came out. As I remember, he had a glass ankle and was pushed around a lot when he came out.

Secondly, back-court players are protected considerably in this era. Ingram is a SF... so he needs more of a power game to be successful all around. I think Ball has the physical tools to be successful at his position.

My only concern for him at this point is the extra curricular activities from Lavar... is Lonzo his own man?

So this guy is saying Josh is already the 1st player to get a 2nd workout with the Lakers? And when did that happen that no one else was around to also report it? Or he just got his locations a little wrong?

He's a local Phoenix hack. Don't get worked up over his attempt to grab some of the pre-draft spotlight.

Jackson didn't work out in LA unless it was some unnecessarily secret thing, he worked out in Sacramento and our front office guys attended. He may very well be our pick at this point, but I wouldn't believe that guy.

Also just googled Russ to see if I was imagining things or if his arms really do look noticeably larger in pictures from this week and came across this

    https://lasportshub.com/2017/06/12/lakers-rumors-dangelo-russell-76ers/

Who comes up with this stuff? So we trade our most skilled guard who has steadily improved in his 2 years here in order to draft 2 rookies (Ball/Jackson) in a row and start the development process all over again? Uh..ok..

Not as bad as the one I saw of us trading #2 and DAR for Okafor because DAR is a bust and we wanted Okafor badly last season.
