I totally get that and sounds just like what I was thinking. I also don’t like being so thin on creators if Austin or LeBron go down for extended periods were cooked.

But something @Cookie brought up made me rethink the notion we could have gotten better for Dlo. Seems like we’ve been trying to trade him for ages and couldn’t find any takers for a package we liked. Maybe we decided these are players we like, is better than any other offer we’ve had for Dlo and we didn’t want to test finding another trade/partner since we had struck out so many times before, so they decided to pull the trigger.

That makes sense to me and we did get a 3 & D player that can guard 1-5 on switches sometimes, which is always valuable.

….and we have wanted DFS for awhile and even had warm fuzzies for Shake a few years back, plus JJ has wanted Dorian bad by all accounts. Another big guy like Rui and strong with an enforcer edge to him … that defends better than Rui but shoots from deep as well (at least has for the Nets this year). Haven’t got our real Big yet but we got bigger and better on D and 2 NBA rotation level players that will fit well. So seems like this wasn’t any kind of a “settle” even if Brooklyn was the only team amenable to DLO, 2nds and Max Lewis.

Once he's gotten acclimated, I think we should start him.

Some exciting responses from DFS. Ready to get after it, know what the goal is. Ready to get off the tank ship.

i think we had two issues when we were trying to move him before--the first was he was more valuable to us than he was to others on the court. he was our starting pg and tbh, probably our 3rd best player up until this season started. you can't just dump that. second, he wasn't an expiring--his player option loomed large at the last deadline, so we couldn't use him like that.

this year, he wasn't worth as much to us on the floor because his head is apparently all the way up his a**, and he IS an expiring.

someone else said the same as i did--it's clear rob determined that the deals that would require his expiring plus our firsts aren't going to be there, even in february, so he struck now. we'll see; he may be right. but all those 20 million dollar players (e.g., vucevic, cam johnson, etc.) are likely not attainable without throwing serious draft capital now.

anyway, this is the DFS thread. i'm curious to see if we start him. it would be hard for me to demote rui or max given how they've stepped up their game and been part of the recent uptick, but DFS is definitely more of a glue guy/5th starter than a bench player. and jj apparently loves him.

i just hope this doesn't mean a return to the switch everything scheme that teams had clearly figured out.

and yes, everyone's going to love DFS WAAAYYY more than people liked dlo, lol.

No way they move Max to the bench. We have to have a consistent PoA defender in the starters.

On a side note, make me miss Vanderbilt even more remembering how guarding PoA usually wasn’t a problem when he was on the court, even with Dlo as a starter.

I think if there's another change, it'll be that. But Rui or Max have to give JJ a reason. He's not just going to yank them. I think DFS will be first off the bench and might close over one of those two depending on matchup/hot- cold.

I think we will when AD sits. I expect some Bron, Rui, DFS lineups where they're super switchy. How that small ball looks may also factor into our pursuit of a traditional big.

I was thinking this morning how we now have the pieces like we did in the bubble for a BIG don’t eff with us talented small ball team.

    :Noddingyes:

…. it’s likely the more he plays Dalton is going to hone that kind of edge he’s got too. Big strong guy also. He’s self glossed himself a dawg as well and we know AR is.

I think that DFS is going to fit in well as a tough veteran who just knows how to play. My beef with Rui these past couple seasons is that it's clear he's not that savvy on the court especially on the defensive end. He's a talented scorer who is improving on the other end but still gets lost in team D. I am actually looking for DFS to replace Rui in the starting lineup at some point this season. Maybe not right away but it just makes sense to have him locking it down and getting open looks from Lebron and AD. DFS in the starting unit puts Rui in his more natural position of bench scorer. For me it's an experience and basketball IQ thing as well as DFS's defensive talent. The three point shooting is close to equal this season between the two of them.

Well-spoken. Knows his role. He'll fit right in. His measurements are that of a "true wing." We'll have some legit length to throw at guys now. He also has the ability to switch; primarily, we went from switching at the beginning of the season to a drop coverage, but with DFS, he can do both. Gives us more options defensively.

That's kind of where we're leaning at, IMO. The playmaking will take a hit, but I'll sacrifice that for a defensive upgrade over any day of the week.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- After spending his first day with the franchise, newly acquired Lakers forward Dorian Finney-Smith pointed out that L.A.'s trade with the Brooklyn Nets didn't just bring him from the East Coast to the West Coast.

It brought him from near the bottom of the NBA standings to championship contention.

"It's fun, man," Finney-Smith said Monday. "Just the opportunity to play for a championship. Not even just playoffs. In Brooklyn, we were just fighting to get in the playoffs. Here, we're trying to win the championship. So it's a different approach, different energy, all around
