Great get. Exactly the kind of player we needed. Really brings some much needed defensive versatility while being able to hit a 3, even after the guaranteed regression. With us leaning in on D, he should be a fun new toy for JJ

He’s a 3 and D wing. We needed that desperately. Now get a serviceable big.

Yeah this deal is a SLAM DUNK considering we woulda probably lost DLO in free agency

DFS is exactly the player we needed and we got it done without giving up any first round picks and not a single starter level player (at this point).

Now we can still use those picks for another deal to upgrade hopefully center position and then we are ready to roll...and hopefully we can get rid of some of the deadweight on the roster.

So happy to see this front office trying to go for it NOW...did not wait until the deadline.

Ok it might be I’m just an eternal Lakers optimist, but I’m starting to come around on this trade.

I never doubted DFS’s fit or ability, my reticence was giving up our best expiring contract where I thought it should be included in an Ingram, Lavine, Fox trade. But I guess the FO said they weren’t going for another star player and I guess I just didn’t believe them or maybe the asking price for all of them was just too high.

But DFS does shore up our defense and gives us a lot of defensive versatility with no weak links in a 5 man lineup if we need a stop. Plus we needed toughness and always more 3pt shooting (which Dlo had been struggling on consistently), so I think yall have convinced me this was a good trade.

@abeer3 you feeling any differently after looking at this more?

I don’t think this trade alone moves the needle a ton, Barns, but it’s a super solid move to me, in the sense that it shows some commitment to this team, and that it is defense focused in a role of need. It wasn’t a big name for the sake of it, it wasn’t an overpay (IMO), but it was something we need to head back in the right direction, size and defense. It still needs to be complimented by another move, a bigger move to make us contenders if that’s the goal, but I do think it will help us stay afloat a little better than the roster yesterday does to wait a bit more for asking prices to lower. More from Cranjis, I’m not sure what some of this stuff means, but I’m sure some here will get more from it

It’s always a positive to add defence and shooting when you have AD and Lebron on your team. DFS is a welcome addition along with the emergence of Christie as a 3&D guard and POA defender. I’d also include Reaves as a credible two way player and Rui is improved on that end if only average or below average.

I know it’s a long shot but if we could get one more credible 3&D big like an Olynk or Turner, we would be in an interesting spot.

Cranjis basically making up b******* to come up with how a guy who ranks "A" in both iso and help defense ends up being a freaking D in his overall defensive metric.

When I pointed out this in Twitter or X or whatever he stated it's just an advert basically and I have to buy a subscription to figure out how that can happen. Turns out hes struggling too. I mean he says he's also a strong ball screen navigator. He has to be basically one of the worst PnR and defensive rebounding I mean worse then D Lo to get his overall defensive metric that bad

As I said, I love the versatility he'll give us defensively. Shooting will trend back down, but I like the move on paper. According to Buha, we'll see how he looks on the court this Tuesday if he passes the physical.

not really. it's not that i don't like DFS; i just had a bit higher hopes for our biggest chip, as you did. and it wasn't even necessarily lavine/fox/ingram. i was hoping we'd move dlo for a younger guy that could stick past lebron and/or someone who fit an obvious need. and maybe the answer is that the market wasn't going to bear that, as has happened before. but the market has also turned up some wild stuff in february.

i'm of the mind that wing defender actually wasn't a huge need for us, and that POA defender is still the thing that will sink us on many nights.

i had already accepted that the dlo that existed prior to this year wasn't coming back, so the loss of value there (he's historically much more valuable than DFS, as noted in the disputed figure--other numbers agree, though) is moot.

i am glad that the dlo saga is over here, and we don't have to think about whether extending him at low money is better than letting him walk in the summer, though. i just view DFS a prince-level player, roughly.

i'm also glad we held onto our firsts, but i don't know that there's much sense in using them if you can't pair them with a large-ish expiring.

In 2024 – 2025 players shooting 5.1 percent less than the league average when Finney Smith defends against them.

According to statistics, Finney-Smith is currently score an average 10.4 points, collected 4.6 rebounds, 1.6 steals, 0.9 block and 2.4 three-point shots per game. But when he played for Dallas with Luka he shot almost 39% from 3 points.
