Truthfully, it is hard for me to even really give a s*** about the Dodgers with their inability to do the right thing for all of us fans with no TV for 2 years straight, plus Magic's statements this year that he didn't think it had hurt their brand at all. Oh really. What are you smoking Magic? Right up there with "sure we make a lot of money but we spend a lot of money too" in NBA lore. But that said, was it a colossal blunder on new whiz GM Zaidi's part to trade away Dee Gordon after the breakout season he had last year?? To a casual, pissed off observer like myself now, it sure as bleep looks that way. Don't even know how the replacement guys at 2nd are doing this year .... see 1st paragraph. But saw some reporting in the Times the other day that we suck on the base paths so much that 36 year old Chase Utley has been a shot in the arm to them. LOL. This guy has never even been a SB savant, even if a heady base runner. In today's Sunday major category leaders I see Dee 2nd in Majors with .332 BA to Harper's .334 and 2nd in SB with 45 to Hamilton's 54. Seems to this disinterested observer to be a colossal f*** up. Was he that bad with the glove last year or was Zaidi just being stupid or too cute with his stamp on this year's roster?
No hit twice in nine games... *sigh* But I agree somewhat. It's difficult to really be too high and too low because I can't watch them anyway.
WOW! Kershaw speaks and the team listens. The urgency is definitely there right now. Sure they got no-hit twice in 9 days...... but! they're still 7-1 in their last 8 games and have a pretty good cushion on the Giants. I'll say this: Greinke got a little help yesterday on the strike zone outside. Still both pitchers were dealing really nicely and I'm loving the competition between the two teams right now.
How did you see the game? I admit I don't even check usually to see if they are on ESPN or another channel. And I haven't had any luck yet with a "link" to one of the gray area sites.
Didn't watch the game itself, saw it on the pitch counter and then saw the replay when Bochy was thrown. It was a generous call. The ball was a little off the plate outside. I went to the game tonight though and WOW. Kershaw with 15 strikouts in a shutout against the Giants. The guy is the best pitcher since Koufax. Just genuinely unbelievable. You can feel it as you watch him, he's on another level.
Well shoot. From the guy who is hard pressed to care since I can't watch them on TV two stupid years running ....... Kershaw / Greinke ? Koufax / Drysdale ? Does NOT suck to have either duo on your Dodgers roster, YO.
I think the Giants 1 run negates a shutout. Clemens (if you ignore the roids) was better. If we're talking playoffs, Kershaw doesn't crack the top two..... hundred. #BitterGiantsFan #MadBum
brainfart- I meant complete game. No reason for hate. It was a good series, we just won all three games that's all. Bumgarner and Kershaw are the two best pitchers I've seen in years. Bumgarner better in the playoffs, Kershaw unstoppable in the regular season. Nothing but respect for the way those two go about their business. Honestly the only Giants I don't like are Pagan (he seriously looks like Jafar from Aladdin) and Romo. Something about their faces... The rest of the dudes? Respect. I really like Posey too, the guy is a beast. When he came up in the 9th and Kershaw had thrown 120 pitches I thought he was going to hit a home run and win the game.
^^^ posey has turned into a singles hitter. 16 HRs on the season. WTF. He needs to play more 1B so he's fresh late in the year.

I think it's a big deal. I still expect these guys to lose in the playoffs and they deserve it after keeping us in the dark for two years AND not getting the pitching we needed to be successful. Still I feel good for the players and Kershaw was just astounding in that game. He came through in a tough spot which has been hard for him. He outdueled Bumgarner who is a hell of a pitcher. Great job.
I came home turned on the tv... thought 0-0 game don't give up the homer right here and booom homer. 7th inning and I go "hmm, this is Kershaw's problem inning just get through it" and boom 3 walks and 2 run single by Baez. For the record, I would have left him in BUT i don't blame Mattingly for taking him out right there either. Don was damned if he did and damned if he didn't as long as anything but an out happened. Its also a different game if we could get ANYONE to hit with runners in scoring position holy fk balls.
I'm all for a good, hard slide. But I don't see how ANYONE can watch that replay and say it wasn't a dirty slide. First of all dirtbag Utley has done it before (to Tejada too!) and secondly he didn't even slide! He started to go to the floor after reaching the base! I don't think the Mets would've held on to win anyway but that was probably the dirtiest play I've ever seen in my life, just disgraceful. Yes I'm a Mets fan but I'd feel this way regardless. You can take Chase Utley out of Philadelphia, but you can't take the Philadelphia out of Chase Utley.
I'm sorry, but you're a New York guy of course you're going to say he's super dirty. Dirtiest play you've ever seen? If Tejada doesn't try to ballerina the throw, he doesn't get hurt and it just looks like a baseball play. Was it dirty? Sure, but I've seen far far worse and Tejada should have made the smart and easy play instead of trying to get cute. It was far from disgraceful. It was old school baseball and in today's softer sports world it doesn't fit. I get that. The only problem I had was that he shouldn't have gotten the base. He got it on a technicality that I don't like. Otherwise? Play on. Utley will take the slugging that's coming to him tomorrow and that'll be that.
