PG please. Not sure who, but we need one. I don't think we need to use this player exception to sign, say, Aaron Craft, so I'd definitely give him a chance. I like how hard he plays, how smart he plays, and that he also goes %100 on defense like price.
Craft is available now, might be worth a shot. I also like Casper Ware. The guy is very small, but he's a solid PG. Played for my alma mater LBSU and he's a strong dude. I'd be fine with either.
Both Craft and Silva were waived today. I don't really know which one I would prefer we give a shot to if we even go that route. Members on here probably know better than I do between these two players. I've seen more of Silva than Craft though
Have no idea who Aaron Craft is but I do like Peyton Siva. Wouldn't mind Siva if we are looking to add a PG.
Craft was the best defender last year in college IMO. He locks people down. Goes all out all the time and never takes plays off.
It's not just Doc's eye test, btw. From Wikipedia: All-Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year 2011 Big Ten All-Freshman Team 2011 4x Big Ten All-D Team 2x All-Big Ten DPOY 2x Academic All-American of the Year Big Ten Tournament MVP 2013 3rd Team All-Big Ten 2014 2nd Team All-Big Ten 2013 NABC DPOY It's an absurdly good resume on that side of the ball.
I'm unfamiliar with all of these names, but yeah, Craft sounds legit and I'll take Doc's word for it. I wanted a SF since Young is out for 2 months, X is out indefinitely and Ellington is having problems shooting. But with Price going down it may have to be a PG. Let's see what Ronnie's prognosis is though. If he'll be back sooner than later I'd still prefer a SF.
I like barnes but that doesn't seem realistic .. Orlando Johnson might cost very little with abilities that have yet to be seen.
Words don't exist to say how Barnes isn't realistic at all ... I'm not sure what some members are using , but that's great stuff for sure !
I worry that craft is such an offensive liability that his bulldog defense won't matter. plus, I don't think he's quick enough to be that kind of defender in the nba. he does have the whole "intangibles" thing going for him, though, and at this point, you take what you can get. I thought the mavs were shopping gal mekel last week. he has since put up a few strong games in the preseason (like 17/8). he could be a kendall marshall-ish stopgap.
No to Mekel. He is basically poor-man Lin. I think a 3&D SF/SG hybrid would serve as much much better.
I don't like Aaron Craft for this team. He was a great defender in college but he did it by playing aggressive man-D because he was undersized in the college ranks. He also couldn't shoot the college-3. Basically, now that he's at the NBA level, he can't get by on being an aggressive man defender because he's now both undersized + not athletic enough to guard NBA PGs. Even in college he was overmatched athletically but he had enough BBIQ to offset that. This won't be the case in the NBA with PG being such a deep position. He reached his ceiling in college imo. There's a reason he got cut by GS and they aren't trying to develop him. Also, Price is basically the same type of player as Craft. They both have aggressive man-D + are undersized + can't shoot. Lakers don't need two of these same type of guys. If anything, they should try to get a PG who can both play-make and score, since only Kobe + Lin can do that. I suggest Yuki Togashi. He won't be able to defend at all, but he can definitely be a playmaker and score the ball. 21 years old, 3rd string PG that hardly plays but can earn backup minutes/be inserted for Price if the 2nd Unit isn't getting any offensive flow at all.
I like Yuki as a novelty, but he's too small, too unathletic, too small, and too unathletic for the NBA. If we want an undersized PG, then bring back Darius Johnson-Odom or bring in Casper Ware. Both players are not only bigger, stronger, and more athletic than Yuki, but also more talented.
