Great read. Tough one, too. But that's the reality of it. I feel Kobe's age-related woes are exposed more without having another dominant player beside him

Like he said, Kobe has played through it all before, he's won titles with injuries many wouldnt have played through. But 19 seasons in, and I don't know how many if you add up playoff games and Team USA games, age eventually is going to catch up to the best of them. I don't think Kobe is done, or retires, but he is breaking down and if he does play next season he needs to be treated more carefully from the very start.

Father Time has never lost a battle but man has Kobe been putting up a hell of a fight. That was a good read, tough to get through though.

I won't read another Ding on Kobe on aging article. You shouldn't either.

I swear this dude sits in his bathroom thinking of ways to talk about Kobe. I wouldn't even know or care about Ding if it wasn't for that twitter feed section on the main page. Have his tweets about Kobe are negative or backhanded. Hell even tweets about other players seem to have a Kobe shot in there.... basically, don't like the dude.

Ding is a Kobe fan. I don't doubt that, puff, but you're right about the "sits in the bathroom" thing - he'll write basically the same article a few times.

I will genuinely read every other Ding article because of this. I don't know if he's paid on commission or what, but he definitely will put out two or three articles on the same subject. He's a good writer though. He's worth reading the first time around.

Don't get the Ding hate. As someone who grew up reading the OC Register with writers who actually liked Kobe instead of the LA Times with those that hate him, I always enjoyed Ding's stuff. He's a fan, a good writer, and it seems to pain him to see this Kobe as well. I never see stuff he writes as backhanded or taking shots, he just likes to joke a lot and maybe he's just not funny.

I don't hate. I just think sometimes he writes too much if that makes any sense for a writer whose job it is to write about the team.

the fact that kobe is still playing at the level he is 18+ years after breaking into the league is itself extremely remarkable

keep in mind, how many injuries have we seen kobe play through over the years that would sideline any other player? all those knee injuries, the torn ACL, his all but destroyed right index finger that he's played through for close to 6 years now. it's to be expected that father time would eventually catch kobe but let's take a second and remember that if this was any other NBA player, they probably would have called it quits years ago with all those injuries.

after this injury and with this train-wreck of a season i really hope they just shut kobe down in hopes they can field a competitive team next season. no use to have him come back this year

I thought i was the only getting sick of these articles. Kobe is old and trying to play through various injuries. We got it.

I see no vitriol in the article but it reads like a eulogy... If ya'll want seriously snide comments, try Breshnahan.

Remember that even with Scott's psycho running drills on day one and continuing the first week or two, it was reported that Kobe was usually finishing first in them. At age 36, 19 seasons in, most all post seasons except for a few and 2 Olympics with Team USA.

When did he have a torn ACL? Not saying didn't happen but just not recalling this. Which season? Right, left knee?
