I find this sort of unbecoming. maybe that's just me, though. but coming out and stating that no one actually said you were fired due to your off-court issues just rings hollow. and I do think he probably was fired because the team sucked, primarily. I also don't think fish seems like a "bad" guy or anything. I just hoped he was above both these situations and this weird, delayed, quasi-defense of his character and actions. I'm wondering if we'll hear much more from fish on the basketball side of things. maybe he'll get a tv job.
I thought Fisher's account of the Barnes situation was uneven. Barnes comes swinging yet there was no fight? He did not retaliate? They were not close when Barnes said they were? Fisher has always been a stand up individual on and off the floor but life takes odd turns sometimes...
Since his divorce things have changed for Derek... I love that man and I hope he's doing alright mentally...
As a young man who came out of humble beginnings, from a small school in Arkansas, had to fight for his NBA career, one of Jackson's trusted lieutenants and favorite people, was a proven leader of those Laker teams post O'Neal...Fisher had it on the character side and was a man of faith. I would think he'll get through this somehow and get it together. Come to think of it, the Scola incident was the only one I ever saw or could remember where he did something out of character.
One of my favorite moments. Turned the series around. He always had Kobe's respect because of how tough and dedicated he was. It's not about talent. It's about effort. I'm hoping he rebounds from all the turmoil (self imposed or not).
Knocking Scola down was in character As a tough as nails team leader But there are questionable things in recent times Including being a bro code cheater
