Or... that means we still have an extra roster spot to add this unicorn of a defender who's still available in September that people are now clamoring for.

I think either way we're fine. I would definitely rather have Marc than not. But if we don't it likely means what Bron and AD told Russ was true and AD is going to be playing more five, which is everyone but him has wanted for years.

Unrelated (and not directed to your post) ...One more thought on the DJ wasn't good enough to play for the Nets notion I wanted to cover. This is the same system and part of the brain trust that ran Clint Capela out of town in Houston because he was too tall. He just got PAID by the Hawks on his extension and has looked great for them. Just saying. Also, DJ might have gotten out of the rotation, but so did Millsap in the playoffs and LMA was out of the league. We got the younger of the 3 -- 32 vs. 36.

Would have rather had a younger 3rd big that we could stash and develop, but oh well. Hopefully the Nets dumping him will motivate DJ to play at a high level for us.

Pelinka likes having redundancy in his teams and this is it. Dwight and DJ are very similar players and insurance for one another.

I still think Marc stays despite all the recent reports stating otherwise.

We don't really have a clue what's going on with Gasol.

I mean, by default, he's still under contract, so he's on the team.

The whole Gasol situation ever since he signed here as been pretty weird.

He's really good friends with Durant and Irving and that was the original big 3 err big 2.1 of their last FA period.
Tells you something that Nets didn't really care anymore: I hope he barely plays as he's become a statue on defense.

Would have rather then taken a flyer on guys like Hartenstein who have younger legs and a change to actually get better

This scenario has crossed my mind:

His brother became a 2 time NBA champion with us, but yet we let him dangle in trade rumors every off season without shutting the rumors down. Then we just let him leave to Chicago without even showing much interest. Without an offer. Treated him like an average tall white dude who wasn’t good enough to stick on an NBA roster. (I keed)

in some ways it was very disrespectful. We disrespected his brother. That pissed him off on behalf of his brother. Time passed. Wounds healed. But elephants never forget.

now out of the blue, we trade for a player that wasn’t better than him and sent him to the bench. Without telling him. Without asking him. He agreed to sign here a couple of years on the cheap to come back to the team that drafted him, to the team his brother won championships with. Now this? (Elephant memories flooding back)

it’s possible he felt very disrespected. It’s possible we’ve just just deeply offended the Gasol family at this point with how we’ve treated them. Maybe he’d just rather wrap up his career in Europe rather than play for us.

Maybe he feels like if we could do this to NBA champion brothers twice, why sign up for a 3rd time. (2nd for him) Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. He’s no fool and refuses to be treated as such.

if it’s me, I immediately offer him gift certificates for dinner to nice restaurants all over the City of LA. We know the way to his heart is through his stomach. We get him a tanning salon membership to help with his skin tone. We pay for a full body waxing session, and also set him up with a personal trainer.

wait a minute. Am I being disrespectful?
    :Brows:

But seriously, the first part crossed my mind. Dude is probably offended. Not sure he wants to come back. Maybe he sees this roster and changes his mind though. Or maybe he sees this roster and decided to stay home.

That should have stuck: it would almost be as legendary as John "Hot Plate" Williams
