Is Rubio healthy and starting? Russell should be able to hang and Jordan gets Lavine. What's the problem?

Don't ruin the vibe with Huertas at 32 by over matching him against the more athletic PGs in the league than Rubio. Let Russell "figure it out" as he has said he will do.

I'm fine with bringing him along slowly. I do expect Russell to firmly take control of the starting PG spot before the end of the season.

I think Russell fits better with the starting unit. Along with Randle and Clarkson, they bring a speed to the starting unit that will sorely need it with Hibbert and Kobe in it. He'll also have to brace for the learning curve that is NBA speed, and no better way to do it than in a league that is dominated by quick and speedy guards.

Marcelo fits much better with the bench because he can elevate the game of those guys. Lou and Swaggy will play more efficiently I feel, Bass and Black will love his pick and roll skills.

Drafted second overall should be thrown in at the deep end of the pool. No diapers...big boy pants time. Scott is overthinking this.

    I kinda like that thinking.

That said, despite Byron not committing to anything, you have to think Russell is starting. Marcelo is clearly the backup PG, and Lou the backup 2, Russell is either a starter or someone here isn't going to be playing. Russell, Clarkson, Kobe, Randle, Hibbert. Sorry, A Brown, you're 3rd string (I hope).

D'Angelo has been criticized for not having more urgency out there. He's clearly competitive, but you don't necessarily see the fire in him all the time like you do Clarkson and Randle. They want more of that and this is just fuel for that.

D'Angelo himself has admitted to this being an issue for him. It's not about not wanting to win or anything because he's as competitive as anyone out there, but are you going to be obsessive and detail oriented and precise? They haven't seen that just yet I think and that's what they want.

Players develop by being on the floor. Russell will get schooled a lot but he will give back the business. He'll develop mentally too as the talent is evident. It's not as if he'll be out there with the likes of a Kwame Brown or a Wesley Johnson. N.B.A. stands for No Babies Allowed.

I don't see how Russell is more of an offensive threat. Andre miller had 15-17pts a game in his prime. He also had about 9ast.

Andre's prime was about 15-17 pts a game. 8-10ast. I think we all be THRILLED if russell gets those numbers.

I don't think he'll get that coming off the bench either. With Kobe, we had Eddie Jones in front of him for him to battle for position.

Here, Marcelo definitely has the experience edge, but Russell has a lot going for him starting. The confidence, the pressure to perform, the guidance of a player coach like Kobe on the floor to correct him.

    That's just numbers.

When you compare players, you usually compare style of play.

Because Russell has a far superior overall offensive skill set. He's a better slasher, finisher, quicker, more athletic, and even though his jumpshot isn't consistent right now and he's not the most athletic point guard it's still better than Miller's ever was. Better in the open court. Not trying to dump on the guy he was a solid point guard, but Russell has superstar potential and that's what you're anticipating at the #2 pick.

yeah, miller could never shoot. Russell can already shoot. I don't think miller was more athletic or had more savvy (particularly as a college freshman). I'd hope that would be more a floor than a ceiling. and miller had his biggest statistical impact on bad teams, iirc. also hope that's not the case for Russell.

the only thing miller had over Russell was strength. and this does matter, but if you have height and skill, you can work around a lack of strength to some degree.
