He'll have a lot of things going for him that will make him look better.

    - Time in a system that's not Madsen's Madness.
    - NBA caliber teammates.
    - Conditioning and training.

I'm fine with Byron's camp. In his interviews his demeanor is a hell of a lot different. He's excited, the guys are excited, we've got a hard working crew. He even said we skipped some things because guys are so far ahead.

He said this year no one came in out of shape. I'm guessing last year guys weren't ready so we had to run more. This year I'm not concerned about that.

You just reminded me I have not watched Byron's interview yet, probably the only one but by omission not design. On my list of things now.

I hope you're right. I did notice how happy he was in the training camp interview from hawaii on the TWC interview. Maybe he's turned over a new leaf. We'll see.

I do feel good about how hard working the young guys are, and I like that Hibbert went right to work when he get traded. Based on that effort, our defense should improve in and of itself just because of that factor. I just hope we have some sort of coherent scheme in place, on both sides of the ball.

If you remember last year Byron focused a ton on conditioning and we actually entered the year without our full playbook installed on both ends of the floor. I don't think we run into that problem again.

I think the bigger thing is Byron's comment about Russell's conditioning - “His conditioning was really good and he shot the ball extremely well,” Scott said of Russell. “On the defensive end, he’s working on some of those things we want him to work on that end of the floor with communication and understanding where he needs to be.”

As long as he is working hard I am good.

You can work with people who are willing to put in the work Smush. Don't even really need accolades.

Apparently he and Kobe are getting along so well that they've named nice passes as "Russ passes". When Kobe makes a great pass, Kobe will say "that's a Russ pass" and vice versa.

I don't think Kobe's toeing the company line with his comments. I think he legitimately trusts the young kids and believes in them. I think all the veterans do.

Lakers' D'Angelo Russell requested to have locker next to Kobe Bryant
By Zach Harper | NBA writer

    September 29, 2015 4:05 pm ET
When you have one star player on his way out and one potential star player on his way in, you want to see the torch passed and the knowledge taught from the veteran to the young guy. With the Los Angeles Lakers hoping No. 2 overall pick D'Angelo Russell can be their next franchise player, Kobe Bryant being able to teach the ways of the NBA -- both on and off the court -- to the rookie could be paramount to Russell's development.

That's why it's a good idea to make sure Russell doesn't have to go too far in order to bend Kobe's ear. In fact, he won't have to go far at all after the rookie's request to have his locker next to Bryant's was granted by the Lakers. According to Mark Medina of the L.A. Daily News, Russell wanted to make sure he could take advantage of the opportunity to learn from Kobe without having it be weird by always needing to walk over to Bryant's locker for advice.

Before they play together in an NBA game, Lakers rookie point guard D'Angelo Russell found a practical solution that will accelerate any adjustment period with Kobe Bryant.

Russell requested to have his locker next to the Lakers' star.

“I don't know how much longer he's going to be around,” said Russell, who will first practice with Bryant on Tuesday in Honolulu. “So to have the opportunity to pick his brain a little bit every day, I don't have to make it weird by walking to his locker. I'll just look to my right and there he is.”

On Monday, Bryant asked Russell if he felt nervous amid the expectations as the Lakers' No. 2 draft pick.

“I said, ‘A little bit. I don't know what's coming my way,'” Russell recalled. “He said, ‘This is the same thing you've been preparing for your whole life.' That gave me a boost.”

This is a pretty common practice around the NBA. Ricky Rubio and Kevin Love had their lockers next to each other in Minnesota when the Spanish point guard came over to the NBA and they were building their chemistry, on and off the court. Chris Bosh has his locker next to Hassan Whiteside's in Miami in order to help bring him along as much as he possibly can.

Bryant and Russell sharing the same space around their lockers will lead to a seemingly infinite number of opportunities to learn the ways of the NBA. Russell won't have to go far to learn about all the times Kobe wanted the ball and felt he was open.

It's really easy to like/root for this kid. Yeah, he's going to take time, and we need to be patient with him, but the more and more we see him it becomes a little clearer why the Lakers were impressed with him, what they saw in him, and why they took a chance on him over Okafor.

I'm glad no one has come in here panicking about his bone bruise in his foot.

He just needs some rest and plenty of ice.

No panic, but he doesn't need to be doing 2-a-days on it. I'd rather see him get it healed, it's a long season, hopefully long career, let's be cautious with our highest draft pick in 30 years.
