They haven’t been able to replace bogut/iggy/Livingston. That could prevent the return to prominence.

I thought Stein was playing really well for them and they were happy with him as a young big. I’m not sure I understand why they shipped him out for basically nothing

he had a player option on next year, too, which added complexity to the cap situation, i think.

also, this is the second team to decide WCS isn't worth much. if he can't impress in dallas, he might be the new nerlens noel (can probably stay in the league, but on successive prove-it-to-me contracts) instead of the new tyson chandler (young athlete who learns how to do the little things that help teams win).

anyway, i think gs's system was beautiful because they put multi-tooled, highly skilled, smart players on the floor basically all game long. it's not easy to build that roster, and they're seeing that as they cycle through the FA bargain bin after those guys aged out.

Man, I was willing to way overpay for Noel. He doesn’t play big minutes, but there aren’t many who do more with their on court time. His rate based and advanced metrics are absurd.

but pretty much everywhere he plays, the coach only wants to cap his minutes at about 20mpg. is it because they're dumb, or is it because they've figured out how best to use him, and it's not as an every-down back, so to speak?

Too much evidence that experts screw up a lot to be sure, but I’d definitely lean toward that is his best role. My point, which i wasn’t clear on, was that WCS hasn’t excelled in any role like Noel has in his role. And I really like WCS.

yeah, WCS underperforms his talents. occasionally, he shows his full repertoire, and it's impressive. i wonder how much he loves playing basketball. i think he's like some other tall talented players who just sort of end up in the nba because it's a great way to make a living.

I'm not too happy with Russell's season. I thought he should have made another jump but maybe I'm expecting too much.

I just think when you get max money, you should play like a max player. With GS missing all their decent players, I think Russell should have produced bigger numbers and more consistently.

I actually thought he was out injured since I hadn’t heard a peep about him in awhile.

he had some good moments, but sounds safe to say another big step wasn’t taken. They’ve had their share of injuries this year. They could be pretty fascinating next year though.

They're tanking, and they shut him and Green down all the time.

He now has a bruised quad (aka trade possibilities).

This has been a frustrating season, for sure. It's a career high for PPG and eFG%, but that team isn't even obviously building anything this year.

^yes the problem is that GS absolutely blows. Therefore Russell is barely even in the media. Its gotten very quiet around him.

Last year they were one of the most surprising teams in the league creating a lot of buzz. This year GS is completely under the radar.

i read somewhere today that he's actually shown some improvements in various ways over last year's all star season, but yeah, you don't get much attention in last place. i'm not sure that should be wrong. i think trae young is getting a little too much love given how atrocious his team is and how much his inability on one side of the court is dictating that.

Really liked what Atkinson did for his game. Was hopeful Kerr would have a positive impact too. But the tanking is bad news. They shut him down all the time and don’t care about making good basketball decisions. Not sure Minnesota would be better, but we’ll see.

    Let's go...Wolves?

Russ and Towns are an interesting duo.

    Russ is currently at 23.6-6.2-3.7
    Towns is 26.7-4.2-10.8
    That's 50.3-10.4-14.5

They should post monster numbers, but we'll see what it amounts to.

what a terrible return for Dlo, wiggins alone requires a pick or 2 to move...oh well gsw/kerr must think they can transform Wiggins into a KD or something

3rd team for Russ since the Lakers trade. There must be "something" about him, something beyond basketball...

    Perhaps.

Russ played bad D in LA and Golden State, but he played solid defense in Brooklyn.
Towns has never been good by most defensive metrics.

I can't imagine that they'll suddenly start crushing it, but it's not like Wiggins was better than Russ on defense.
