it was obvious he'd succeed in bkn

crappy team where he's the only good player, no more LA pressure, freedom to do as he pleases

he wouldn't be playing that well if he was still a laker. or maybe he would, considering they finally realized he was better suited as a 2 at the end of last season. welp, too late now

Put this team in the east like nets and the Lakers would be close to a 500 team.

Hes not "succeeding". Hes just putting up stats on a crap team. Look at the teams hes played. They are a joke.

    two things:

    1. you're projecting that his efficiency will drop (it will), but so will that usage rate. also, the tone of your post implies that usage rate is kind of a bad thing--not sure everyone agrees on that. lots of good players have high usage rates. actually, the fact that a coach allows a usage rate that high in a player is data in itself.
    2. the clippers, suns, and pelicans are also pretty bad, tbh. and the lakers are every bit as bad as bkn. if russell's stats are empty, so are lonzo's.

as for the conclusion, the point is that russell had his own team here (do you want to talk russell/ingram or russell/randle right now?), but management saw fit to dump him for cap space that might not be used.

this isn't going away until the lakers sign a really high impact FA or russell flames out on or off court. until then, it's a very valid discussion.

    1. I answered a request for usage rate and the only conclusion to be taken from it is that Russell has the ball far more than any of our players including Lopez, Ingram, and Ball. That means he's likely to put up big numbers. Any implication you took other than that is your own conclusion.

    2. The teams Brooklyn has played are definitely worse. Outside of Phoenix it's not really debatable. The Clippers and Pelicans are both likely competing for playoff spots. I never said anything about empty stats in that post so I don't know what you're even bringing that up for. I believe personally that Lonzo obviously affects games more than Russell, but I wouldn't argue his stats are any "fuller".

And yes I'd prefer what we have now than what we might have had with Russell. I would have liked to see Ball and Russell together, but I find what we have much easier to root for. Lopez is a good player and a good teammate. I enjoy watching him and having him on the roster. I'm willing to give up Russell for him straight up. Lopez is a better player.

This. Been harping on it for a while and will continue to do so. People couldn't see it with Russell but as the list grows longer with Randle, Ingram, etc I think more will start recognizing that we have problems in that area.

Here is the good part; we needed an analytics guy, right? Magic and Rob hired what was said to be among experts one of the top analytic guys in the industry.

If we have to fire the coaching and player development staff, I expect Magic to hire the best. No issue there. If it is a problem, it will be corrected.

    I don't know.

I can tell you though, that, to me, it feels as if they would find an <expert in an area> to the stars.

Much like Gunnar is an athletic trainer to the stars. (yes, i know he worked with athletes)

A lot of style, not sure how much substance.

27 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, 3 Turnovers. Not as efficient tonight; only shooting 8-23; 4-9 from the 3-point line in a loss. Still, not a bad outing from a 3rd-year player, IMO.

Is he playing as a PG or SG on that team?

Yeah I figured. What stood out from your post is that 1 assist. Which probably means he's their scorer and not a playmaker.

Lin being out really hurt that team. He probably would have been more efficient.

Yeah, Lin is underrated. I'd be surprised if they won more than 15 games this year.

Are we really going to follow this guy game by game? He was my favorite player while he was here, but he’s no longer a Laker, I can’t be that invested anymore. Wish him well, but I don’t see him ever being an all-star or anything like I maybe once did.

Absolutely. I will, and I won't mention him in any other Lakers thread, but I will definitely keep an eye on him and post about him in here.

He's one of my favorite players.

We'll they're 2-2. :). They only have 13 more games to go to get to your prediction. I think somewhere in the range of 23-25 wins.

russell's been playing point in the games i've watched, even when lin was on the floor. the low assists are likely because he's their only scorer, so he often initiates, then moves off ball, then gets it back. he's playing pretty well, and their team is bad...like ours.

but i'm sure he's like, kicking babies or something in secret, and the nets will soon trade him and demarre carroll for al jefferson or something.

Yeah, I'm keeping an eye on him too. I still like his game and I like Atkinson.
