I'd be down to go tank mode by shutting down Russell and trading some vets.

lol I know, but the thought of getting another top 5 pick is VERY intriguing.
I get it doe, we need players to start developing and playing some tough, consistent basketball cause that's the only way you get good.

But what if that top 5 pick allows us to package it for an impact player?

No one will trade with the Lakers, ever, for any significant player or players again. Those trades are over for the Lakers. Their butt banging for 60 years ran out after the veto. No one in the NBA will ever trade with the Lakers unless they are bending them over. Lakers will need to win it all by winning with the young guys now, improving to playoff status and then getting a free agent stud who really wants to be here and knows he would be the missing link to a title contender. Other than that, the lakers are on their own.

unless it's top 3, which relies on luck (see last two years). the key is to win enough that you're not handing philly a top 6 pick on top of a miserable season. so no, no tanking.

sitting russell in a game that's really not winnable (yes, i see the score right now...) isn't tanking. it's picking your spots and being cautious.

It's also a tried and true Popovich coaching method of boosting some of your other players by asking more of them.

As for tanking: hell no. We're not going to lose close to enough games to give us even a good chance at keeping the pick.

No thanks to the tank. We have done a great job so far this season in showing that we have a nice young core, a fantastic coach, and are back on track. The last part of the puzzle is putting together thirty to thirty-five wins hopefully. All of that should help us convince a top tier FA to come here in the next couple years.

We're not tanking this year so dispel all thoughts of it!

We don't need another prospect ... If we luckily keep our pick , it needs to be part of a trade before draft night

At what point do we become concerned when our 20 year old face of the franchise has to sit games because of persistent knee soreness?

I'm not in panic mode but this is unfortunately raising some red flags. Sit him untill he is healed. We can't have him play 2 games and miss 2 games and so forth. He needs to sit until he is healthy. If he cannot get healthy, thats another issue.

No reason at this age to have persistent knee pain, which has been going on since training camp reportedly. And he is also out against Charlotte now...you can't improve on the side line either.

D'Angelo is listed as "probable" for the Charlotte game. He could play. He could sit out. Nothing has been decided yet.

It doesn't matter. He said he still has pain before the Cavs game. The question is, why did he play if he wasn't healed and had pain? The second question is...can he even get healthy sitting a few games or does he require surgery or is it chronicle?

this gets more troubling by the day. i don't think you can sugarcoat the fact that a 20 year old is having to sit out game due to chronic knee pain of undetermined origin.

it's the same reason i can't get as excited about embiid as everyone else: i'm worried he'll never play consistently.

and again, the relative silence from the team to the press on this issue is doubly concerning.

This is the biggest point. If this was a minor deal that would be easily fixed, wouldn't they have said so at this point? I'm not sure why there's so much secrecy around this knee with D'Angelo.

Unless the reality is D'Angelo's knee isn't a major concern and he just has a low pain threshold. He's had trouble dealing with pain before.

Said after the game that he feels he has "turned a corner" with his knee - per Rotoworld.com
