D'Angelo should be second. Had to deal with Byron, Kobe, Hibbert, Kelly, and the rest of the scrubs on this team and still had a fantastic statistical season. One of the best for a 19 year old rookie point guard. No doubt the video recording debacle hurt him and he has no one to blame, but himself for that. However let's be real some have had it for the kid since the get go. Ever since draft night. After the slow start people were already yelling bust which was absurd. Even after his play improved greatly especially that monster stretch in March he never got the credit he deserves. It's all good. D'Lo is in the gym now working his a** off and he'll use this as motivation and and I truly believe he'll outperform everyone in this draft outside of maybe KAT. At the very least I think he can shorten that gap.

I read some Twitter comments and everyone's still calling him a snitch and saying he didn't even deserve the single 3rd place vote. Twitter is nearly as bad as YouTube so I put no stock in their comments though.

People want the kid to fail because of one mistake. It's sad and pathetic, but it's gonna make all the haters tears mighty enjoyful when D'Angelo is making multiple All Star teams and All NBA teams. Same goes for Julius. You can't go on a YouTube highlight without people hating on him too. "He sucks, can't shoot, hate his game, he'll never be a good NBA player, etc." It's because we're the Lakers. People have loved seeing us struggle the last three years because they know whoever they root for couldn't dream of the success we've had over the years.

I'm looking forward to the media observation comments on DAR and Randle coming out of their USA Select team performances.

I think that genuinely has to do with this vote. The perception of who D'Angelo is right now is extremely low. He's not well thought of by fans (and probably even some players). He's still going to have to rebuild his image and his name.

That's why I'm with LT on this one. This summer with the Olympic squad is the PERFECT way to fix that narrative. Go in, impress, work hard and you can come out with a new reputation. Just ask Cousins. After his stint with the Olympic squad, most of the onus on failure turned to the Kings. Of course, Cousins worked to hurt his reputation over the season, but the point is this is D'Angelo's chance to shine again.

The whole "snitch" thing has gotten way past out of hand. OK he made a mistake. It's time people let it go. Everyone does something dumb at some point in their lives.

I agree, but I'm sure Tim DiFrancesco is aware of him needing this as well haha

Tim's first ever picture training D'Angelo was a front squat I believe. He knows his stuff. Tim is a good trainer.

I won't be surprised if he's left out of all rookie teams.

Speaking of which....who votes for the All Rookie teams? I'm not putting much stock into the ROY voting because it's voted for by the media and I really believe D'Angelo's snitch bit got him that 9th place finish. I was honestly surprised that he was below guys like Jokic (WTF how did he finish 3rd?!), Winslow, and MUDIAY. I hope this lights a fire in D'Angelo.

It is telling that D'Angelo and Randle were invited to play for Team USA select but basically all the guys in front of them except Karl Anthony Towns and Devin Booker were NOT invited (granted KP and Jokic can't be invited cuz they're not American). I put wayyyy more stock in Team USA select than ROY voting. BTW, was Randle not eligible for ROY voting because he played 1 game in his first year?

The Lakers applied for Julius to be considered a rookie, but the NBA denied the application. Last year he was a sophomore even if he barely played his rookie year.

@therealdeal Oh ok that makes sense. Who votes for the All Rookie teams? Is it the media again or coaches?

All-Rookie team is handled by coaches who cannot vote for their own players.

Nice. I'll definitely hold that in higher weight than stupid ROY voting which is done by media. My guess is 3Angelo makes the All NBA 1st team along with Booker, KP, KAT and ....I'm not sure who that last person can be...maybe Justise Winslow?

KAT wasn't invited since he's ineligible to participate for the USA. He played for the Dominican Republic. Devin Booker got invited last week.

D'Angelo wants to be great. It's plain as day. The skillset is terrific. Only thing I could see preventing him is injuries. That's all. Keep working young fella.

You just know that DAR and Julius are going to go into the select team competition against the best in the NBA looking to kill it and impress. And I'm betting they'll do that.
