Wes is so bad it's just unfathomable. There's no reason he should be this awful. 4 points on 2 for 9 shooting. I rebound. 32 minutes played!! He's the big zero. He brings absolutely nothing game after game after game.

I don't know how the coaching staff does not watch tape of the game and not see his lapses on the court, not To mention his abysmal stat lines.

Yeah he sure is better, but that's like choosing which turd smells better... IMO, at the end of the day, neither solves the Lakers' problems...

Yeah, he's a liability. Our SF spot is the biggest need on this team right now...

He just has absolutely no feel for the game. No natural basketball instincts whatsoever.

And working out with Kobe made it worse actually. He has an inflated idea of what he's capable of and is constantly doing things he shouldn't. He should never shoot unless it's a corner three or a layup/dunk. He should be out on the break all the time. All the time. Always. Don't worry about a rebound, just go run and let the PG get you the ball in a spot where you might actually be effective for once.

And how does someone with all of those physical gifts not know how to play defense? He's constantly out of position or fouling players.

Damn it. I was so excited for this guy two years ago. I had no idea how disconnected his brain is from his abilities.

It really is sad. I don't see this guy being in the league much longer if he doesn't get his act together. It's astonishing that he's this empty between the ears. That's really all it is. Scarecrow.

It's incredibly disappointing and at times infuriating. I can't remember the last player I saw like this. He's got more natural ability than half the team, but is absolutely unable to put it together.

I ask again: what is so hard... about learning to shoot corner threes, slashing to the basket, and playing hard-nosed defense? What? There have been dozens of players that have made great careers out of that, but he can't figure that out? He can't do that? Is he too good for that? I saw so much potential in him, it kills me that this guy is so literally stupid. I don't like calling people stupid, but man you can see it on the court. He's just really not a smart guy when it comes to basketball.

^^ Yep. Sad but true. I keep trying to keep it euphemistic but he just doesn't have the IQ points for this game. If we could somehow graft Luke Walton's brain into Wes Johnson's body we'd have the perfect Small Forward.

If he had Walton's brain, Wesley might be worth 10 million dollars.

^^ Shoot, maybe even 15 per! Basically he'd be Kawhi Leonard.

You just described Ariza IMO. He did exactly the things you want Wes to do, and it earned him a title and a 5 mil per year deal. So I'd agree that Wes is not basketball smart, because you'd have to be to have his physical tools and not want to use them to earn 5 mil per.

    So basically Ariza? Haha
Ariza came here mostly being a no name and look where he is now, a solid starter. He came already with the defensive tools and mentality but then developed that 3 point shot.
With Wes he has the tools to be a solid rotation player, just lacking the brain. Sometimes he tries to hard to make a play for himself on the offensive end when he should really just be sporting up or be a slasher. I think he wants to be more of an offensive threat than a defensive one imo.

I think we solved the puzzle. HES IN A CONTRACT YEAR, thus is going to try to take shots to drive up his stat line in hopes of getting a bigger paycheck from someone next year cause itll obviously not be us.

Exactly. Just an idiot. There's a reason "3 and D" players exist. Hell they're something of a premium in the NBA. What moron can't figure that out?

Why haven't we read a report where Cooper goes to practice and talks to Johnson? Heck why haven't we read a report where Johnson actively seeks out Cooper? His perfect role model happens to be one of his coach's closest friends and we haven't heard a peep about it.

We should want the Lakers to search every available option with personal. I emotionally want the Lakers to make the playoffs and give Kobe a chance to compete. I also know that this may not help the Lakers logically with draft picks etc. What we cannot do is start that let's give Iverson another chance - he has the heart of a champion and may have more in the gas tank mentality. We are only getting good pieces who can contribute now. Acey and the Israeli pg seem on the right track, but I do not know them well. Xavier is unfortunately the first guy we dump.
