The difference between PJ and other coaches is that he was the only one able to coach with Kobe on the team. There's not many coach in this league who would succeed in this task
I don't disagree. I think they have less of an impact than baseball and football. If you think it's bad in the pros, realize most college coaches fail in the pros.
Some of that has to do with the ability to lead grown men vs young men, not as much about x's and o's IMHO.
I think it's the fear factor. You can scare young kids. That only works for so long. But by the time they're sick of it, they're off to the pros or have graduated. In the pros, it's tough to do that with millionaires. So basically, in college you need to be more of a recruiter than an Xs and Os.
I think it is a fear factor too, but not in the same way somewhat.... more like 100% an economic way than anything else. In college the millionaires and faces of the teams are the coaches themselves and there largest programs have the most national TV exposer....those programs and coaches are the celebrities and big name recognition. In the NBA it's the polar opposite as you point out....... The players leave solely for economic purposes, why would you stick it out in college when you see zero percent of the profits made while the NBA guarantee contracts and for the right players endorsements eclipse the benefits of majority of eductions offered in college programs? as they say money talks......
