It's a fair point about averting some conflicts but one could also argue that shooting every one of your neighbors in a bad neighborhood would make people afraid to attack you. It's a slippery slope trying to determine which interventions were necessary and which were pointless.

One thing I can say is that our interference has been constant since the twentieth century

85,000 children have died from malnutrition in Yemen

How is Yemen a danger to us?

You can say maybe certain nations would aid our enemies or harbor our enemies but it still seems as though contributing or aiding allies who are killing children is unconscionable.

It's not good enough to say to ourselves... well maybe it would have been worse. By this standard you could preemptively kill anti social civilians and say... well maybe they would have killed an innocent civilian.

That's the flaw with the three strikes law. Of course it makes the country safer by jailing potential violent criminals preemptively... but you also had desperate poor people put in prison for life for selling weed.

This is like Minority Report behavior... targeting people in case they do something wrong as opposed to waiting until they actually did something.

    It's bad karma.

This is such an underappreciated aspect of our need for a gigantic military. These socialist countries people love to talk about that are so successful have essentially a S.W.A.T. team as their military. They are right next to freaking Russia and they have hardly any military force to speak of because they know they are safe with America, Britain and France ready to swoop in. If America practiced isolationism, several of these countries would be completely different.

It's something Sentient_Meat hasn't been able to grasp despite me hammering it down on him every time he brings up the military. The entire economy is very interrelated and predicated on our military status around the world. If Russia or China became the superpower of the world, America would be drastically different in a very bad way. If people thought America ruling the world was bad, imagine if Putin or someone like Xi who CHOSE to cover up COVID-19 controlling the world's economy. Hate or love America but no one wants to mess with them. Our military is simply an investment you make despite it being a heavily corrupt industry. In a country with 330+ million people, fraud and abuse will always exist. The best thing you can do is just to limit it. You brought up America being able to swoop in to protect everyone else... This is why Trump wanted to get out of NATO. These countries did not treat us fairly. We are subsidizing their military and because big brother (USA) will protect NATO countries, they look at it as if the USA provides free security yet, citizens of these European countries applaud their country for cheap healthcare... It sure wasn't that way when Hitler was whooping their a**** and America came in to finish the job... It seems they forget their history. The world is a much better place because of America and I will always defend the military for that.

America funds 2/3rds of total NATO funding... Next time people talk about Norway or Denmark's amazing policies, I say America should seize them.
