That's how teams game plan against the Lakers. Pack the paint. They can't shoot, so dare them to beat you that way and gobble up all the rebounds. It's horrible to watch.
some mavs fans were talking about how good wood looked next to AD, and others sarcastically said "oh, why didn't we just play him next to AD?" gotta admit, i expected a MUCH better game from wood in this one. as in i'm pretty shocked. figured he'd do the rui thing in a loss.
I definitely thought he'd use this game to make a statement. But the whole team played like they woke up 2 minutes before the game started and just ran out on the floor so he wasn't alone in stinking it up out there.
Philadelphia point guard Patrick Beverley leads the NBA in +/- among players coming off the bench this season. The top three also includes Golden State guards Gary Payton II and Chris Paul . Leaders in “+/-” indicator among reserve players: Patrick Beverly: +63 Gary Payton II : +57 Chris Paul: +56 Buddy Hield : +50 Christian Wood : +50 Saddiq Bey : +50 Alec Burks : +47 Anthony Gill : +46 Kyle Anderson : +46 Lonnie Walker : +46
But .... but .... I didn't see LeBron's name on the list and he doesn't come off the bench. Don't you take that tone with me Mister.
Wood is a scorer, not a just a stand in big. We don't involve him in the offense, he gets most of his looks as an fallback option. This guy has averaged double digit shot attempts, every since he became a consistent rotation player. Get that man some shots! This is the same guy, that put up 30pts,8 rebs, 7 assists and 2 blks against the Lakers on Christmas day last season. He can do a lot more than what we are asking him to do right now. Which is basically, rebound, set screens, and hoist an occasional 3pt shot. Frankly his biggest offensive impact thus far, has been to space the floor, for Lebron, AD, or Rui, teams still respect his deep ball. I say this again, our perimeter guys are launching too many damn ill advised jumpers! Hell we go too many long stretches, without AD touching the damn ball, as it is!! This is why AD will go out and take the rock in the backcourt sometimes, so he can get into his own action. (That is not a good look, I don't care if he was a PG in HS...This is the NBA, and he aint no Giannis or KD!!)Feed your friggin bigs coach!!!!!
same with AD, tbh, except we pay him 50 million to be a non-focal point. ham just really doesn't like bigs; i don't have another answer. you can't just "be aggressive" your way out of schemes that barely involve you.
Was going to say, he rebounded really well tonight - very much a bright point where we had been getting out rebounded all game. He brought some fire on that end.
He must have got high for the Rockets game: only fools fall in love and only fools never seem to maximize their talent in the NBA. Hopefully he continues to play well with AD compared to by himself because the Lakers arent' winning a title without AD regardless
Don't know why his 3 isn't falling yet. If that gets to drop at his career averages it will really help open up the playbook even more.
