good mentor for randle; similar body and athleticism, but randle has some more ball skills. bass will show him how to use his strength and quickness against bigger guys, hopefully teach him the value of having a knock-down 15-footer. it's why bass stuck in the league.
i like the bass sweet lou and hibbert additions maybe we can get something for lin and add another piece or a pick same for jordan hill one can only hope
A solid pro, never gets injured and after these last 2/3 yrs who doesn't love that. He's a solid defender as well, Hibbert and him will really help on that end of the court, no more last in the league on D!!!!
Bass is a solid get. Obviously we know where his ceiling is, but he's a hard worker no-nonsense solid player. Also love the Sweet Lou acquisition (I swore he had his own thread but can't find it now). Can be a bit of a chucker, but I think more disciplined than Swaggy (I assume this means goodbye to Swag). Apparently Toronto fans say Sweet Lou has a big ego problem and a persecution complex. Oh well, Los Angeles loves its drama.
Did he start for the C Bags? Would he be comfortable in a bench role behind Randle? That's really where I envision him right now.
I believe he started as a bench player with the C's, maybe started in times of injury, and later was a starter when they sucked. He seems like a great backup to have, and a starter in times of need. Basically started or came off the bench depending on who was in front of him, doesn't seem like a guy to complain either way. If we want to start Russell and start developing him right away, I don't see him having a problem coming off the bench, the same way Boozer was a pro about it.
Yeah my ideal rotation right now for the bigs assuming we're done on that front has: Randle (25)/ Bass (23)/ Nance Jr. (garbage time) Hibbert (30)/ Black (18)/ Upshaw or Sacre if he's around still (garbage time) On a nightly basis I like that plan. Randle can come along slowly and learn a lot from Bass on how to play as an "undersized" PF. The more I think about it, the more I really like the way this team is shaping up after all the crap that went down last week. Hibbert and Bass? I think they're going to prove to be really good additions to the team.
Our bigs last year loved the midrange jumper, even though they couldn't hit it. Bass also loves to shoot it, but he can at least make them. Here are his numbers compared to Boozer's, Hill's, and Kelly's. Bass: 10-14 feet: 40.0% 15-19 feet: 45.2% Midrange overall: 43.6% % of shots that were open: 28.2% % of shots that were wide open: 8.2% Boozer: 10-14 feet: 50.4% 15-19 feet: 37.3% Midrange overall: 40.5% % of shots that were open: 21.7% % of shots that were wide open: 6.8% Hill: 10-14 feet: 37.7% 15-19 feet: 36.7% Midrange overall: 38.0% % of shots that were open: 28.1% % of shots that were wide open: 23.9% Kelly: 10-14 feet: 27.8% 15-19 feet: 21.1% Midrange overall: 22.5% % of shots that were open: 29.5% % of shots that were wide open: 26.9% Bass shoots the best of the bunch with Boozer trailing not too far behind. Kelly was by far the worst. Some people might say that it's because Bass got open looks on the C Bags, but actually, based on the numbers, Kelly and Hill got far more open looks to the point where it might imply that players didn't even bother guarding them.
Great breakdown! The thought of Jordan Hill hoisting more mid-range shots just sent a shiver down my spine... Teams were definitely leaving him open. Jordan probably won us 1-3 games on hot shooting from the mid-range, but he lost us probably 5-7 throwing bricks from the mid-range. He fell in love with an inconsistent shot. That's a recipe for getting let go of. Boozer wasn't so bad if I recall and I remember Bass being money from that range. Kelly... Yikes. We might have ruined his career trying to play him at SF. What do Hibbert's numbers look like from the elbow?
I know Bass is the vet but I think you gotta start Randle over him. Let's be honest, the future is not Brandon Bass. The future is (possibly) Randle, and that will take time and experience in the role we envision him in (a starter). I say throw the young man into the fray and see how he does.
thats the reason i didnt want any part of j hill back this year when he got here he was an energy guy that was attracted to rebounds and would get his points off put backs and when a pg set him up but after dantoni he fell in love with that mid-range and that turned me off he didnt take high % shots anymore he would just get the ball and throw it up wish him the best but glad he's gone
Hibbert's numbers last year: 10-14 feet: 34.9% 15-19 feet: 41.9% Midrange overall: 38.1% % of shots that were open: 13.1% % of shots that were wide open: 11.4% So, Hibbert shoots around the percentage Hill shot, but about 47.4% of Hill's shots were midrange jumpers. Hibbert's number is a lower 41.4%.
