You're right. I have some clients who battle depression. Energy, hygiene, mood, motivation, and personality all suffer. Educating those around them is difficult. They're lucky to have you caring for them and having their best interest at heart.

Too bad "my friend" is really me. Been a tough stretch of life honestly. This place has been a go to for laughs for sure.

Just taking it day at a time, but I have appreciated all of the advice.

I've already gave my view, but just a reminder to you to: 1. Live in the moment, 2. Broaden your perspective because life is bigger than whatever is getting you down, and 3. Let those disturbing thoughts bounce off of you, don't grab onto them. Do these things and you will get better and better. One more thing, I recommend no alcohol, weed or drugs they will just be a crutch and keep you from getting better.

Just wanted to reiterate that you are honestly one of the most entertaining posters in CL/LB history.

Even if we've never interacted on a personal level, these forums are like family to me and you're an integral part of that.

Sirron, I still struggle with this at times. My girlfriend at the time, (now she is my ex-girlfriend due to my depression) really helped me push to exercise. The good news is that it doesn't have to be strenuous exercise. I love walking! Sometimes when things got hard I'd just go for an hour walk. The fresh air really helped me calm down and clear my head. You have to be able to want to do it for yourself, to better yourself, and to be the man you want to be.

This board would not be what it is without you. Like I said, I have felt depression on an extremely deep level after pain killer withdrawal. I also went through a really rough patch about 9 years ago as I approached 30. That one couldn't be blamed on my brain chemistry being haywire. It does get better. Super hard too see, and I remember when people would tell me that I'd think to myself, "Now way. This is it. I will probably have to live this way my whole life." But guess what? It did pass. It did improve.

But I'm not sure we will petition Mitch to draft Bender. ;) :p

Depression isn't something you can just snap out of, I know how hard it can be. It's not something medication can always fix either. I and many of my family members have struggled with it. All I can say is what helps me is trying to remember that life is precious, it's a gift. If I get really down, the only core thought I can come back to is yes this is hard, yes I am not in a good place, but I am alive, and that beats the alternative. That isn't always something that cheers me up or anything, but it can at least get my mind back on a better path. I hope you start to do better, sirron. I can also say you have made me laugh many times on a day I wasn't doing so well, and I think it can go under appreciated how much we can all help eachother through these things with the little stuff, maybe by just being there, so thanks for that.

This might not be relevant because while I've been depressed at times like everyone else, I've never been severely depressed, but still here goes...

When I lived in LA a few years ago, one thing that always made me feel better was I'd walk home after work, 5.5 miles with my headphones on singing songs out loud. I don't sing very well, but it doesn't matter, I enjoy it, and when some people would stare or laugh, that doesn't matter either because it feels so good. The endorphins kick in and I would feel great by the time I got home. I know, everyone doesn't like to sing, but if you can find something you like, that you can zone out to, and not think about things while raising your endorphins, and do it regularly, that might help.
