Surgery Likely. Timetable uncertain. http://www.nba.com/article/2016/10/02/76ers-simmons-right-foot-likely-needs-surgery
Yeah he fractured his foot landing on someone's foot. But what was more discerning for him was the apparent weight gain he had over the summer. It take time for a body to get used to new weight, especially in a sport that depends on structural dynamics as much as basketball. It was definitely a factor in the fracture, as much as the Sixers want to deny it. Just got to wonder what the Sixers Training Staff have been doing the past 4-5 years. Noel, Embiid, Okafor, now Simmons? That's just sad. This is also why the Lakers aren't rushing for Brandon Ingram to put on 10-15 pounds right away. He's still already getting used to growing to 6'10, you don't want to stress his body out adding on too much weight.
Yup that 33 pounds of muscle gain over a few months did him in. That's way too much way too fast for a guy that young for a professional athlete. Let your body get used to your first NBA season, start sculpting your body next season. If I remember correctly, that's what Clarkson did, entered his second year thick and solid.
So supposedly Ben Simmons' agent wants him to sit out the season. http://nba.nbcsports.com/2016/10/03...s-year/?ocid=Yahoo&partner=ya5nbcs&yptr=yahoo
Sorry for the mixup.. I was confusing metatarsal with metacarpal.. (hand) That's what I get for not reading the article.
Arguments for both sides on that, but the agent is looking out for his player. Hopefully he makes a full recovery, and can be the next generation's Lebron we all love to hate.
It's a Jones Fracture, same injury Randle had, same one Durant had, same one I had. I remember reading online when I got mine that people would have surgery (like Simmons and I had) and they'd be playing again in a few weeks. Dez Bryant came back in the same season last year after suffering the injury. Then you have guys like Kevin Durant who even with the intramedullary screw fixation, still don't see it heal and they need to bone graph it which makes the recovery really long. If I were the agent, I'd want him out too. It's a tricky injury.
If this guy is the future of your franchise, and you just watched Embiid sit for 2 1/2 years injured, you should be careful as hell with bringing him back. I know Simmons and his agent display much diva behavior, but in this case, with a player this talented and young, I'm cautious as possible.
it's not like philly was actually planning on winning games yet, right? i'd sit him a very long time if i were them. like, months past when my doctors clear him. and i'm no trainer, but i'd suggest he plays at a weight closer to 230 than 250. i thought they were considering running him at pg (i would). no need for extra bulk if this is going to be your game.
