there's a lot of scuttle about a guy whom we won the title without. again, be glad to have him back on a reasonable contract. but if not, we will find a replacement. our rivals overpaying our bench players...isn't a winning strategy for them.
Is there any official word that he has opted out? I know he changed agents and there is talk about him optioning out but I couldn’t find anything official. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.si...y-decline-player-option-dennis-schroder-trade
Hopefully, he does. I love his signing before the season but after not playing in the bubble, we might have problems with him going forward. We need guys who would fully commit to playing
When you say it like that it makes it sound like he just punked out on the team. Don't be down on a man for looking after his son. Do you think he didn't want to be there playing with the guys in the playoffs? Man, I hope you just weren't aware of his son's vulnerability to respiratory illnesses. The Lakers are smart enough to know that you take care of players, any chance you can get because you never know who will come back and play for you (Dwight ahem).
That's not what I suggested at all. I just don't think the Lakers should reward him with a ring when he's opting out for more money when he wasn't physically there to help win it. He can't have the ring and the money when he didn't show up. That's my stance. If he opted in, I have no problem with him receiving the ring. I've already stated that I don't blame him for not going to the bubble. That's a decision no one can blame any player for taking.
he contributed more towards the entirety of the season n if scrubs/cheerleaders jr, waiters and the other 2 way players get a ring, Bradley deserves one too
Well, he already excused himself from the bubble and I think we (the fans) were all okay with that considering the pandemic was new at the time. But are you going to allow that again in the upcoming season? The Lakers are not a charitable institution, despite the Dung/Moscrap signings.
So if Bradley didn't want to play in the bubble due to his son, why would he play this season where he'll be flying all over the place, coming and going from the house...His son would theoretically be far more at risk this season than in the bubble.
I like Bradley, but I’m not super into the long term deal thing. I’d rather commit longer to KCP than Bradley.
I really want AB to opt-in. Him doing that would pull some of the leverage back in our favor with the KCP negotiations. Do I care if he's on the team? Not really. KCP can't bend us over a barrel if he opts in.
I guess I brushed over that part of the story. Figured he wanted more years and more money. But yes if he just wanted the same pay for 4 years or so I do that absolutely, as long as it doesn’t have to be from our MLE which we need to go after others. I’d really like to retain all of Bradley, Morris, and Dwight, but I don’t know if our money situation allows for that.
He sure looked a lot better than a 5 million per year player before covid I say 3 years @ 5 each, why not? he'll be 32 at the end of prime and probably past it a little but that's no biggy for that kind of money. Looking at the cap and admittedly I do not know how cap holds work exactly, so far we have guaranteed (and counting AD): LeBron 39.2 AD 34.5 15.5 Shroeder 4.2 McGee 3 Cook 2.75 AC 5 Dung (assuming the request to waive this does not pan out) 3.56 Kuz 1.52 Tucker --------------------------- we are at 109.23 with a cap of 109.14 I don't even see how we are able to pay AD max at this point. KCP we can go over cap so he's not an issue
If he wants a long term deal - I'm down with 4yr/16M and we can frontload the deal and have the salary be higher right now? Let's see what we can come up with...he should be fairly easy to dump in any deal if we needed to dump his contract next summer.
Agreed. He had to be dying on the inside everyday not being able to play. I applaud him and want him back even more for showing what he is made of.Good dads are greater and more valuable than good ball players.
