I don't know why yall expected him to take a discount also these contract numbers are all based on the salary cap, by that 4th year the salary won't really mean all that much unless the cap takes a nose dive.
Hi Astros, there is no problem with opposing opinions or voicing them. I was irate when we hired D'Antoni and I made a stink about it back then (we were ClubLakers then) for quite some time. I hated that move so much it pained me. And I stuck by my guns. I get your concern that it looks like an overpay. I agree that it feels that way given the Bulls and Nets could no longer offer a max deal. However, Shams coming out and saying Detroit was brewing up a max deal is either something Austin's agent came up with or it had some truth to it. Either way, it's a poker move and frankly as you said we couldn't really afford to lose Austin for nothing. Luka wanted him and made it known. Lebron said he had no problem with Austin getting paid. I think all things being equal, Austin would've probably chosen to stay here over Detroit, but it really wasn't worth the risk for our ownership group and ultimately they have earned my trust after what they've done with the Dodgers, my other team I root for. I also know you are concerned with the future of his contract, but folks get big contracts all the time, some are worth it, some not. I don't think you can go into the negotiation thinking hard about being able to move a guy in the future when he's young and in his prime. We didn't do a five year contract which I think is a nice saving grace for us. Anyway, even if you feel that your opinion is not resonating with folks here, I do encourage you to stick around. You've been a good poster and have contributed here, that means something!
Ah......we're the problem. 10-4 I saw plenty of examples that were given to your points of concern. None of them were saying you were wrong, just we didn't see it that way...we tried to answer stuff and instead we were the ones babbling. I'll keep that in mind in the future. Funny how this place is not in touch with reality but everywhere else that says the Reaves deal was a bad deal, is so in touch with the times. ..................and I'm at peace with my thoughts. Moving on.
A little more time in the weight room and less time on the links is the first part of living up this contract
I’m dead certain LG is exploding in rage right now … what fun to be there for the next however many years any time a typical basketball s*** happens injury bites AR or he has a scoring game in the teens that we lose. Sounds maybe more to your liking, and that drum will be beaten endlessly no worries.
as if you could be more annoying, you apparently care more about what he gets paid and if he's earned it every time, rather than the Lakers being closer to winning do you get a cut of the 185M or something? people here in general are not worried about Reaves, he'd still be alright if he was paid 150M instead of 185M. People are rightly worried about the repercussions this may have for the future of the franchise.
Come on he put like 10 lbs on last summer and no doubt will be at it again this summer. Only so much at a short period of time is physically possible or probably advisable for a skills type player?
Everyone that knows who Reaves is going to be in 5 years, where the Lakers will be in 5 years, who will be the projected #1 pick in the NBA in 5 years, and what the cap will look like in 5 years, and how trading away picks will go in 5 years.....raise your hand. Because if you don't know what something will look like in 5 years, you must be assuming. And you know what that does to someone....................
I don’t think this is really true, I think we have plenty of differing opinions here. This place has always been about quality over quantity though, I’ll take what we have over a lot of sites out there and Reddit spaces filled with people spouting absolute nonsense. You’ll find a lot of quality discussion here you won’t find a lot of places IMO. I do think the average ages of posters here has a lot to do with that as well, we’re not the youngest group and on the whole we don’t freak out over every move, at least not compared to other places I’ve seen, like Twitter. We’ve been discussing the Lakers in some form or another for decades with a lot of the people here, we’ve seen a lot, a contract like this isn’t the end of the world. Plus, at the end of the day it’s a game played for entertainment, it’s not that serious.
LakersBall has it all. You can come here anytime to get updated on contract info, salary cap issues, player comparisons, injury updates and pretty much anything else you want to know. We have many very intelligent, informed posters that post regularly on some complex issues in a way that even I can understand. I pick up a lot of good stuff here. I like having my opinions challenged and occasionally my point of view changed. Very cool place.
Thank goodness there’s a nice contingent of 5 or 6 that will remind everyone daily about it too …. indefinitely.
I find it ironic that those who crash out over other’s opinions turn around and claim that those remaining calm are freaking out and that they “can’t handle” differing opinions. Mental illness is real.
