why strange? 14th spot isnt going to be some great player to begin with and all these old dudes probably gone after this season
Because we already had him under contract for our G league and didn’t need to give him an NBA contract to keep him. It wasn’t so much about playing time.
The young man handled the entire interview well. He does not sound robotic, fake, or uncomfortable up there, like a lot of NBA players do, no matter their experience or age. Sounds very natural, sincere, and comfortable when he speaks. Does not seem to take himself too seriously at all lol, but at the same time seems to hold a lot of respect for others and for the NBA game. Seems like a good kid that could have a career in broadcasting.
As I imagine Reaves will.... because reporters will keep asking him about it and mentioning it in articles and it'll probably become a semi target on his back around the league from players who will look at him and laugh at the thought of invoking Kobe's name around his game. Good thing he does seem to be grounded with a sense of humor about himself and knows how much his grandmother loved Kobe.
Seriously. People are gonna fixate on that hillbilly stuff, where his story of him and his grandma being Kobe and Laker fans in Arkansas is far more wholesome and interesting. It's so cool how open he is about being so close to his grandma, and a basketball nut grandma at that.
Of course NO worries this year as he will only see garbage time, if at all. Then again we may have a LOT of garbage time.
I don’t feel like any players will care about the 14th guy let alone watch his interviews to see his nickname.
Of course. And I said that above, only garbage time this year, but if he sticks around the league it’s the dumb a** interviewers and hack writers that will keep it out in much higher visibility than he’ll likely be comfortable with in the NBA, compared to the fun of it in HS and college. It is what it is and he handles it well. It’ll get old (I’m just guessing) and invite always the prove it efforts from players who knew of Kobe and because of media types asking about it over and over. All I’m saying.
I gotta echo what Stu said about Reaves today. I’m really liking what I’m seeing from him. For a rookie he doesn’t look like a deer in headlights or like the game is moving too fast for him. He’s really good at reading the situation and making the right play (Eagle 2: Electric Boogaloo ) I’m assuming he's on the team right now because LeBron saw what I’m seeing and told Rob to sign him, and I think it was the right call. I think he’s going to be a player.
Really good handle and crisp passing either hand. Agree nice floor awareness and finds open guys while not being afraid to shoot it when open. Seems decent on defense.
Like his defensive instincts and feel for the game. I think our scout team did it again. Enjoyed seeing Rondo constantly coaching him when they were on the floor together. Soak it up rook.
Just an observant guess with my burnt orange* scout glasses on. No disrespect to the Eagle, but they have found another AC. Same height and not as athletic or as much vertical and needs work on upper body but legs not bad already. However.... same good to great instincts / feel for the game coming out as AC .... and skill set including handles, shooting and passing further along. No wonder they want him around the pros, not to mention for an end of the bench PG backup, to accelerate his learning curve. * 1981 - 2001 I owned the prettiest I ever saw in person in the L.A. area all those years 1978 International "Scout" 4xD. Loved that car.
Liked what I saw from the kid tonight. Confident stroke, definitely not overwhelmed out there. Nice pickup
