I did not realize that James Borrego has ~10 years of experience as one of Popovic’s assistants, including for two of the championships. So far I haven’t taken him seriously as a candidate, but learning this does make me wonder if the Charlotte team just wasn’t a good fit for him I also did not realize that David Adelman is Rick Adelman’s son. That’s definitely worth something IMO. If it weren’t for Kobe and Shaq, Rick probably has multiple championships. He was a very good coach. Growing up under that and now being a top assistant for an amazing championship team is definitely a solid resume. Plus it would be a pretty fun counter to the nepotism critiques about our FO that instead of going with someone to ties to the Lakers, we go for the son of the opposing coach who was at the forefront of one of our most bitter rivalries I’ve Stockholm Syndrom’d myself into being on board with a JJ hire, mostly because none of the other candidates really stood out to me. But it’s starting to hit me that a lot of these other options have legit appeal. And the notion that JJ is seen as the front runner because he’s expected to be a great interview… I’m not sure how to read that. Being a good salesman for yourself in a pitch to front office executives does not necessarily translate to what it takes to be a good coach
I wonder how AD feels about this take, from his (potentially) next HC? https://www.basketballnetwork.net/l...out-anthony-davis-and-his-place-on-the-lakers Or this one...
Barely beat Wemby whew! all we have is a couple of third team All-Stars, so we never really had a chance of the chip anyways
This is why I hate the thought of hiring media people. This kind of stuff and old takes will bite him (and us) in the a** at the first sign of friction within the group.
He said what he said, he was out there interviewing for HC gigs, while on TV and doing podcasts. Public statements are fair game.
i've yet to see where someone has said it's anything about redick that makes him a bad fit. it's not like experience allows you to yell at lebron. nobody gets to yell at lebron. popovich doesn't get to yell at lebron. tyronzilla doesn't get to yell at lebron. lol ok. what you need is someone laid back, understands when a guy just needs to hit the strip club instead of practicing. are these rival execs serious with this stuff? tbh, the former players that have sucked as head coaches are the opposite: they were so skilled that they don't understand how to talk to/deal with non-superstars. can't you imagine magic or jason kidd being like..."why didn't you just see that passing angle?" "uhh...because nobody can but you?" it's been the role players that ended up being good coaches. yes. i'd tell my assistants to take a charlotte job or something. nobody will expect anything of you. you'll be fired there, too, but at least it will be a couple years later? anyway, i'm not trying to shill for redick. i just think that's where it's going, and it doesn't bother me. i'd be happy with adelman or nori. i'm skeptical on borrego after he kinda flamed out twice as a head coach. i'm skeptical on cassell because he really screams darvin ham II to me.
An offensive mastermind with the best player in the league who can score and create as well as any anyone only put up 70 points in when the lights are REALLY bright in G6. I'm not against Adelman, I just think anyone with Joker at their disposal is likely overrated. If we hire an active assistant, Nori is my guy especially if we're giving AD a vote. Borrego I was extremely unimpressed with when he was given a chance. I think he's there to make JJ look even better as a candidate. If we want him as an assistant, ok. But even then I still want a better assistant with a better HC record. I think JJ is the guy and I'm good with that. Alien 100% is Ham 2.0 with less success and more interviews. Just no. Go join Doc again
Methinks that the next HC is going to be hired, based off of his AD schemes and plans. Whoever that is, is going to have to ace that part of the interview. 60M per invested in Anthony coming due shortly? I'm not sure JJ is at the top of his list. As a matter of fact, if I'm Anthony Davis, I'm thinking FOH with this JJ Redick noise. I'm not an Alpha? I'm not even a top 10 Defense player in the League, regardless of position? SHIID
if they want to bring in someone to maximize AD, they should look at alvin gentry. AD had his best seasons playing for him in NO
I don't trust advanced stats, but If Davis is not super star Who is? Davis is top 5 by PER All time 1. Nikola Jokić 28.08 2. Michael Jordan * 27.91 3. LeBron James 27.06 4. Anthony Davis 26.84 5. Shaq * 26.43 6. David Robinson * 26.18 7. Wilt Chamberlain * 26.16 8. Bob Pettit * 25.45 9. Giannis Antetokunmpo 25.41 10. Kevin Durant 25.0
Man..they better stop playing with AD. If he tighten up his handles a bit, and fine tune that mid range jumper some more, he's a legit MVP candidate every season for the next 5.
This seems so obvious and requires less physicality down low and more dangerous high flying at the rim for dunks. Yeah he is great with those but s*** also happens much more often coming down from waay high in the air.
the funny thing is that PER is a pretty flawed stat that fails to capture defensive impact in a real way. and even IT says AD is an outstanding player. the AD disrespect is crazy to me. he's just not exciting enough for people. that's the end of the story. the rest of soft beta stuff is just narratives to make people feel better about not liking him because he's not exciting. he's a first ballot hofer whose disappointing games and seasons are great games and seasons for players everyone likes.
