in irwin's piece, he made the point that assistants are often chucked alongside the coach. this is true generally and has been here. unless it's a midseason firing, assistants are tied to HCs. now, is a novice head coach more likely to be fired midseason? maybe. but you can't take the job feeling that way. i feel like brooks or casey will probably take the lead assistant job. i'm sure it's up to jj whom we offer it to. i don't think it's realistic to expect 2 former head coaches with a lot of experience to join the staff, and that's not just being cheap, it's about clout/position, etc. i feel like jj only took the job last week, and so the process of hiring assistants starts there. it's not extension of the HC search. it's a whole other thing. it's also not super important for the draft and FA, which as jsm says, has to be front and center now.
