If it ends up being Borrego or Redick then they need to spend the money to get him a strong supporting cast of coaches

Can we get the thread title changed to Redick because it's spelled wrong?

Not trying to be a smart a**, but this is a Lakers forum and he could end up being our next coach

    JJ Redick

If it is Redick then I am okay with it, Redick would be better than Borrego, I am not too impressed with Borrego after his Hornets stint, after all, Lakers usually bring in former Magic players like Shaquille and Dwight anyway so might as well bring a former Magic player to coach and see what he can do

An All-time GOAT of movies...speaking of Coppola, I get mistaken a lot lately, for the General, from his latest flick. Lol

However this ends, some of these media "insiders ", are going to get dinged, on having all these "reliable" sources.

I don’t even think Hurley played us. He got no more leverage from this offer than be got from the Kentucky one. I feel like he leaked his price and we didnt meet it.

only positive is look how hungry both fans and media have been for a knicks revival. even that brand has somehow survived to some extent.

the clips still haven't built anything, despite massive efforts. but we shoot ourselves in the foot a little too often for my taste.

i defended the lue choice in part because i didn't think he was any better than vogel or williams, and i'm honestly still not convinced.

however, i agree that we should have learned from that situation, and it looks like we didn't.

Replying here to keep it in the right thread.
Monty and Bud are top coaches in the league. I still think a top 5 offer for a rookie/unproven coach is very risky. I'm surprised people wanted us to make him the highest earner in the NBA. Talk about being a poor run organization.

People are also being influenced by anchor values. They saw 100 million, that we don't even know is true, and think 70 is cheap. Turns out the 70 was for 6 years and the 100 for 8 years, as reported. Difference is less than 850k a year.
So I don't really see where's the low ball offer.
    It's top 5 amount
It's for 6 or 8 years, a huge timeline offer considering our last 10 years
All this for a rookie coach, a complete gamble.

How much should we have offered?

Maybe there was a team option every year after year two, and he was offended by that.

Rob definitely set him up to fail with that swamp water roster he gave Vogel his last year.

    highly questionable.

guessing we're going to pay similar for someone less interesting in the next couple weeks.

and coaches don't count toward the salary cap. spend a gazillion and fire them next year if you have to! a poorly run organization lets dollar amount impact coaching hires. it's not like you can't add a player in FA or make a trade if you've overpaid a coach.

6/90 minimum, if we believe he's THE guy to lead the franchise. if we didn't, we should have completed interviews with all candidates before offering anyone anything.

6/70 had no chance, imo. and i've said that if you told me yesterday, too.

As I said before this front office is clueless, it seems they rely on the Laker brand too much and not factor modern sensibilities
