Am assuming “maybe” Linda was around when Ms Hurley was feeling out the team, with zero “woman” signals of wanting her husband to do this, and later “suggested” it would be a bad move to throw the Godfather money offer at Dan? Both because they would then have the real hire looking for even more money … or if somehow he accepted … she knew how much of A problem the missus was going to be? I mean what facts exactly did he get from his “source” …. honest question? Why is it always assumed she has to be the dumbest person in the room OR that she does overstep her “lane” with things she knows nothing about, with NO self awareness?

Does she have a basketball background?
Did she even play the sport for one season as a youth?
Does she have some kind of special scouting ability?
Is she some super sleuth of human personality discernment?
What are her credentials for being a real voice in the most prestigious Franchise in the NBA?
All we do know is she’s Jeanie’s best friend and wife to Kurt Rambis.
It would also be nice to know what exactly Kurt has contributed to coaching hires and player acquisitions.
Yes, we may be going overboard with the slams regarding Linda, but we aren’t coming from out of left field here. Usually people in these positions have, ya know, reasons for being a voice in the room.

I'm just saying ... and in fact did say in advance that it could have had a positive purpose, yes being a trusted business assoc doing we don't know what ... but Jeanie does and values it .... to have been in the pre-meeting of Ms Hurley. To help with the serious woman assessment. Jeanie and Linda have seen it all and I thought if she had at least been on the fence about it they could have offered some similar, peripheral involvement with the Lakers. Her podcast and all. It's quite likely both Jeanie and Linda picked up real quick that Dan wasn't coming or if he did, like 52 years has said... there would be hell to pay for him.

Was beginning to wonder if this happened today or not since we didn't hear any updates. Not much new in this piece, but glad to hear it happened even with Boston extending the series.

    This is so cringe.
I would like to hear those advocating for us to pay top dollar to Hurley if they still believe that with what have came to light the last couple days

I mean just in terms of breaking it. I think JJ was annoyed but I also think Shams is going to be out to one up Woj more than ever. We will see though.

Also no, I don’t think he was right about Hurley. At this point, I think everyone was wrong about Hurley to some degree. But it’s clear Woj was the guy on that particular scoop.

Honestly, yes. My opinion remains the same about Hurley, the front office and our hiring process. I’m not a fan of their media tour but the comments on it feel like the guy outside the bar saying “she’s not that hot anyway” after a girl turns him down.

Snark aside, if it makes some of you feel better then it’s all good.

    I don’t though.

After the focused on Andrea Hurley meeting Thursday the day prior to Dan’s interview, when it became clear to Jeanie and anyone else in there with her that she was NOT AT ALL wanting to uproot her and the family’s life ….. and him the next day Very likely not giving off much more positive vibes …. seems to ME they did the right thing with the size of the offer. Allowed the Hurleys to look good an offer was made that would have made him 5th, 6th highest paid in league with no Pro experience that they could feel good about turning down for their needs in the press, and the 6 years at 100M wasn’t going to make that dynamic with that family any better (recipe for disaster once out here) and they weren’t cut out for the Lakers experience and white hot lights. Not to mention what it does to salary negotiations for the guy they do wind up hiring.

Honestly, I wanted him but have been less than impressed with the post event comments coming from both the Hurleys. It does make me feel like we may have dodged a bullet.

It's like looking at the hot girl you were chasing and seeing her end out with a friend of yours instead ........ and she drives him nuts, divorces him and takes him to court to take all his money. Then realizing that could have been you!!

lol, i'm somehow in both camps--i'm pretty disappointed in how we handled things AND realize that had we handled things right, we could be in a worse position. bumbling into success (or lesser failure) doesn't inspire confidence.

I’m with you abeer, based on all of these quotes that came out. He could have ended up leading our squad to a couple Chips during his tenure, but based on things that he and his wife have said, he could have completely cracked under the immense pressure of being the coach of the Premier Franchise in the League.

Hurley wasn't the guy. Glad we are moving on. Sure, we didn't give him an offer he couldn't refuse, but it's all ok. Next guy up. If it's JJ so be it.

I'm glad to move on from Ham. He really disappointed me this past season after a strong showing in his first year. Since he improved after the deadline I think anywhere else he might have gotten another chance, but this is the Lakers and Lebron has a finite window of years left in the tank. Got to do better.

the rumbles about ham not being an especially hardworking guy were pretty damning. and maybe they weren't fair, who knows?

i feel like he got a pretty fair shot last year and that he made some questionable decisions that definitely did not work out.

i was way more annoyed with the vogel firing, as he deserved to coach a westbrook-less roster before rendering a judgment, imo.

just hoping the new coach will be here longer than 2 years and because we're happy with the job they're doing.

Totally agree. I thought the Vogel firing was scapegoating after a terrible Westbrook trade and the gutting of his championship squad. He didn't have enough to work with. I didn't love his offense at all, but I did like his defensive coaching. He seems like he was never the FO's favorite candidate though. Water under the bridge now. I'm ready for a new coach with a fresh outlook. Also interested to see how we'll bolster this roster. We don't need an overhaul but maybe a couple/few smart changes.
