Kobe said the same about Pelinka, IIRC. Not sure we see its manifestation, but those two qualities are what I'd look before almost anything else in a HC.

So... may be JJ isn't dumb, just doesn't understand defense? Still can't get over the AD snub.

The main issue most have with Rob is listening to Bron on Westbrook, and adding another big. Besides that, I think he’s done a pretty solid job.

Definitely feel for Stan and what he is going through. That is really tough from all angles.

I think you all are making a good point. I also agree that Rondo would be great on our staff. It would be a good first gig for him because the Lakers know him, the fans respect him and he would have a good environment to figure some things out. I like Duds as our raw raw guy. Don't have the same positive feeling for Cassell but just don't have much of an impression. Not against him, just ambivalent. Someone with head coaching experience would likely be good sidekick for JJ.

Don't understand this kind of thinking. But, on a positive note, maybe you could join the LPGA and get a paycheck!?!?!?!?

why would you deprive us of your presence over something like that? For all we know he may be the next Pat Riley.

Can't be worse than Ham, but yet here you were for all of it. Just sayin'...

Not sure where I stand on Rondo as an assistant

It’s clear that his basketball mind is very well respected, so I could see the potential there to be a good offensive assistant.

Interesting that DLo has also cited him as someone he’s looked up to. And we also had the incident of Rondo fighting CP3. So maybe bringing Rondo in helps facilitate DLo coming back on his player option or a team friendly deal rather than having to sign the corpse of CP3 (although realistically Rondo’s presence probably isn’t that big a factor in anyone’s free agency decisions)

But at the same time I definitely would want more head coaching experience on JJ’s staff. I agree that Rondo and Dudley both on the staff as recently retired players with very little coaching experience, would be redundant.

I also think Rondo has a very fiery personality and he can butt heads with a lot of people. I could see a scenario where he doesn’t respect JJ and his inability to fall in line causes some tension in the locker room.

I don't see Duds and Rondo and being redundant. It seems to me that they will serve completely different purposes. Rondo is not a raw raw guy, he will probably give you grief for not seeing the play. Seems to me that he is the kind of guy who will high 5 a guy for making the right play and just ignore the knucklehead and give him a little grief. Duds is going to be motivating the guys prone to error. He could be a good influence for guys like DLO, who seems to shrink in big games, get him up and going, point out where he is making the wrong decision knowing that he can make the right decision. Some guys just need someone in their corner.

It won’t be a Laker season without drama on and off the court.
I like Rondo, but will he be able to work well with JJ and the rest of the staff- especially if things get heated?
Im very interested in who that veteran coach is going to be on the bench.

I'm not, have never been one to get all unhinged about who the Lakers will hire as HC. Is it a foregone thing that Kenny Atkinson is going to CLE?

    Whatever.

And yea, JJ Redick (one D, nothing for AD and D) throwing shade on AD by leaving him off NBA All-D rankles. RANKLES, I say! It just makes him look kinda dumb. I'd take AD on D over Rudy any damned day of the year. Not a good look, dub-J.

But Jack Kent Cooke, Jerry Buss and kids never asked me my opinion and they ain't about to start now. I'd just like someone:
1.) better than Ham, which is asking hardly anything, and 2.) someone who can prove their mettle long enough to stay on for more than 3 years...which is apparently asking a LOT.

    Since 2011:
    Mike Brown
    Bernie Bickerstaff
Mikey No-D (I really hate this em effer)
    Byron Scott
    Luke Walton
Frank Vogel (was here from 2019-22: kudos!)

You said it from the start of JJ being mentioned for the head coach job, and I gotta say I think you’re right. JJ not voting for AD for any defensive awards is probably his biggest red flag to me.

I’m still willing to give him a shot, but it bothers me more than JJ’s lack of experience.
