sounds exactly like things a guy with no coaching experience at all can handle.

hope so Anthony because right now this has disaster written all over it.

I honestly can’t understand how we just watched Ham struggle and somehow concluded that a less experienced guy would be the answer.

I like Cassell. He's a former starting PG, with two rings as a player. That won those rings, with two HOF. An all time great center in Hakeem, and an All Time great 2/3 in Drexler. I like him more than JJ.

What’s Irwin going on about with this playing chicken with the Clippers about Lue angle? That we have some kind of offer in with assets to be exchanged which will be off the table soon, for them to let us hire him away?

This is going to be quite a circus show, it seems.
I guess we all need to get our popcorn ready. Maybe..Rob is just throwing out a bunch of stuff, in order to get some public feedback on the subject. I have my suspicions that he already pretty much knows who he wants. This coach K stuff is a new wrinkle tho.

He can’t do that though …. just resign / quit and immediately start coaching elsewhere. There’d have to be willingness from Clips and compensation involved, right?

Sam was my first choice back when they hired Ham. Of all mentioned so far he would be the best hire. He could coach LeBron and beyond.

I like adding Cassell to the mix. Former all star caliber player who was very competitive and had high basketball IQ, and now paid his dues with extensive experience as an assistant. Seems a good balance between some of the traits of the other candidates.

Although, I almost wonder if his experience works against him. 15 years as an assistant and I’ve heard his name as a candidate in many HC searches, you have to wonder a bit why nobody else has wanted to take a chance on him yet.

Mostly though I’ve resigned myself to JJ being the likeliest option.

Especially the talk around how the FO wants our next coach to be the next Spo/Kerr/Malone. That makes me think they’d rather gamble on a first time coach again. Because while Atkinson/Stotts for example might be seen as a safe option, I think they have a ceiling. They might be decent coaches, but unlikely to be the type of long term franchise fixture we’re looking for.

I think it has mostly been situational. I researched Sam pretty thoroughly back then. Can't remember everything but I was impressed. The thing I like about him most, many here won't, he will coach the team to win not just appease LeBron. Unlike Ham, Sam holds himself accountable. IMO far and away the best candidate mentioned so far.

I am pretty sure that JJ Reddick will be just fine.BTW Malone is 43-34 in Playoffs and he's considered like one of the best in NBA , because a lot of talking heads hate LeBron or Lakers, but it's more like Doc Rivers stats lol
He never was in playoffs with Sacramento and first couple seasons in Denver

If a guy doesn't get a shot in a small market after 15 years as an assistant, what has changed to suddenly make him a better candidate, and in a major market? Seems to me his fate is slated as assistant coach.

There was a time I though Derek Fisher might be a candidate, but the whole wife swap thing kind of ruined that for everyone. No idea if he did a good job for the Sparks or not.

Better than a guy, that has never coached anywhere, at any level, getting a premiere gig, in the 2nd largest market in the country, with the most storied franchise in the League, don't you think?

I have a feeling that this is some serious smoke, what's the point tho? I have no idea.

Sam has been in the HC cycle every year for over a decade. Sounds familiar? There's a reason he's a bridesmaid still.

True and most of the jobs he interviewed for, fired the guy they hired, and in some cases, twice again. I always wonder what the guys that get hired, actually said in their interviews to get the job. Some of these guys completely bomb, and still get hired somewhere else.

It's a closely held state secret, I guess.
