With the TV money coming, that deal should look good for the Lakers in a couple years. With the contracts getting higher and higher, I think we have to look at it in terms of cap percentage. That's $62m of our $186m cap. I'd rather it go to the players than the suits. He could've taken a short deal to maximize money on the incoming spike, but he's always played it safe and taken the longer, guaranteed deal when made available. Also, this is great
I’m just saying, if you make the most money on the team, it’s time to step up and be the man. He should be our best player this year, LeBron in year 21 should not outplay prime 62 mil per AD. Time for the torch to be passed and for things to go through him. And yes I know the extension starts next season, but still, he’s the highest paid overall now.
I agree but throwing him millions of dollars more is not going to make him any mentally tougher. Might even do the opposite. AD is who AD is and we will just have to hope it is enough. Actually, that might not be true. When Lebron eventually retires we might see a different version if it isn't too much longer. For the last few seasons, I have thought, with no proof, that Lebron's lack of effort on defense irritates AD and causes some of his mental no shows. Who knows. Better or worse he is here to stay.
I would argue he was already far and away our best player this past season Sure he has some offensive inconsistencies, but that’s just the nature of his game, and I don’t necessarily expect that to change. But despite that, he is still our best player due to his defensive dominance
At least he's worth the money: hard for us to really fathom this kind of generational wealth but if Beal and Brown are worth max deals, AD most definitely is
I don't think we've got much of a choice on paying AD this much money given this new TV deal. Certainly, think his talent warrants the big money, but would've been nice to get a slight discount on his deal to get a nice role player but it is what it is. Let's pray that he stays healthy for the duration of this contract.
yeah, i don't see where we really had a choice. i was hoping to maybe sneak some incentives in, but whatever. we'll be overpaying him on the back end, but the hope is that this is what lands us the next star, i think. i still believe that our charitable treatment of declining kobe is what brought lebron here.
I’m very glad this is done so quickly. AD showed us with his D why he is worth it. Yes, in the future I would love to see more consistent offense in the playoffs. We know he is capable of it. And I agree with Weezy that when the $62 million a year kicks in there are no more excuses allowed or condoned at that point. He needs to be the two way superstar we have seen not half the time, but all the time. His regular season numbers are fantastic (except the three point shot which has been disappearing).
If Brown Brown from C Bags got 60 a year, then Davis is cost every penny. It is just mind- boggling amount especially what is going on with everything outside of NBA and soccer in Saudi .
Everything in life is a risk. Lets pray that this turns out great. It could. The last thing I want to do, as a fan, is run around with a chip on my shoulder, waiting for him to make a mistake so I can call him out. Blech, what a drag. Would rather spend my time, hoping he wins a ring for us.
Glad that apparently AD is one of the rare Lakers that doesn’t lurk on LB to read all the rips on him and get chased out of here.
Nah, he is who he is. I’m expecting more “no show” games. Otherwise, I’m just going to be disappointed if I expect much more.
i'm told this is "whataboutism"...even though it's important people understand that the stars you pine for miss as much time as mr. glass. the durant stuff, in particular, has always confounded me. is it because he scores a lot? but he misses more time and is similarly impactful overall, imo. again, glad someone else said it, but YES. just be glad we don't have 60 million in cap room and split it on fred van vleet and dillon brooks.
That’s why you’re a better fan than me, as we all know fandom has degrees, and the fans that don’t criticize no matter what are the true fans. Again, love AD, but he gets treated with kid gloves when he’s making superstar money, and that’s not me, sorry. Rooting as hard as possible for him, but harder to make excuses for no shows when he makes the most money on the team. I’m not expecting defense like this last playoffs as well as 30ppg, I’m just expecting consistent effort, show up every game to play like the star, not some games where you look like you woke up an hour before the game and had a huge dinner. I guess Kobe spoiled us or something, but I feel like I’ve always held our stars to that standard, just show up looking like you want to be here, not a ton to ask. Hell I used to get mad at Shaq when he played lazy and was missing a bunch of gimmes at the rim. But hey, when he comes out soft and goes through the motions if you want to make excuses for him and say awww it’s ok widdle AD we still love you, you tried your best, good job, good effort! That’s fine, you are right, probably an easier way to live life. It is still a little funny to me though that just because I don’t praise everything he does and kiss the front office’s backside for every move that I’m a hater or something though, if everyone here just agreed on everything and didn’t have any different takes on things what would we even talk about, what happened to civil nuanced discussion, it’s all
