Looney looks like 1st team All NBA defense against Sabonis and than AD shows and makes him look slow and athletic all challenged ouch This is like an Hakeem like run right now
AD's playing right now is at times breathtakingly dominant. On a day in which Embiid won the MVP, there's no Big I'd rather have on the Lakers right now than AD. The Beast Mode is just epic. The blocks and paint intimidation are everything. Ho-lee OTHER playing from the Big Brow.
AD isn’t Sabonis. I saw people commenting that he would slow AD and be the x factor for the warriors. Huge game by the big man, getting home court like that was so big. We might go up 3-1 again.
Just finished the second half. What a game from AD. THIS is why I wanted him for years before he landed in LA. When he's on, forget it.
i thought looney's boards were quiet, if that makes sense. he went hard after a bunch that AD just outfought him for, especially in the first half. i feel like it set a tone for the team to see AD controlling the defensive boards against a guy who's starting to make his name as an offensive rebounder. anyway, looney's main attributes are intelligence and hustle, so he'll keep rebounding, but he can't impact the game the same way against AD that he does against others. i thought a reporter asked a good question to kerr after the game. the drunks on tnt heard it but completely misunderstood it and just repeated whatever talking point they wanted to hammer home, but the gist was: AD shut down the paint for you guys...what do you do about this? again, the tnt "analysts" lol just talked about offense, but the real question was how are you supposed to get anything in the paint if AD is there. and i'm curious to see what adjustment kerr makes in response. he seemed to imply that he will do something. but what? are they going to do a lot of sealing/off-ball moving screens to get AD gummed up? are they going to bench both green and looney and go with jamychal green at the 5 for stretches that AD is in the game? because the main issue is that their two best bigs can't shoot a lick, so AD can just make sure that they get nothing easy in the paint. anyway, they need to figure that out because they can shoot maybe tiny bit better from three, but not much better. 21 makes is a LOT of makes.
I’m not sure how they’ll adjust, but AD is showing high on the PnR, I imagine they’ll try to take advantage of a high pnr with cutters in behind the action when AD is out of the paint. We’ll see how that works for them.
yeah, i could see it. though you'll have to throw it over/around AD and lebron may be the backside defender there. he's smart like green. anyway, as kerr said, the first few games involve adjustments, and i think we'll definitely see different things from their halfcourt offense.
I am pretty sure they will go small with Dray at C and Wiggins at 4 with GP taking the SF spot... or Klay.
i think it's totally bizarre that chuck is an nba analyst. kenny and shaq, too, for that matter. such a weird formula that demonstrates that it's purely about entertainment and not a serious discussion of the game. chuck's discussion of that point was off topic and stupid. and he delivered it as if it were interesting and technical. Q: how are you going to score in the paint if AD's there? A: looney's too slow, green's too small to stop him. (repeated at least three times with some word salad thrown in for good measure) i think part of the reason many fans think the game is fully about want-to is stuff like this, which is nonsense. "if AD wants to, he'll do whatever". no. at least kenny (while also NOT AT ALL addressing the actual question) was like "well, they can sit another defender in his lap". which at least acknowledges that strategy can sometimes undo your plan A.
i'm sure they'll do that more, but you're just going to sit looney? and AD will still be in the paint there defensively.
Exactly, Lebron has had a fair few blocks blowing up cuts, DS will also play for it and get some steals and Reaves is intelligent enough to be in the right place at the right time.
I could go on all day about the issues with NBA commentary in general. So little analysis its just sad. Rarely do you get a real breakdown of what is happening on the court.
It just amazes me how different commentary is for the NBA vs. NFL. I get the NBA moves much faster so there isn't as much time to dissect every play and explain it to everyone. But this is the best we can do?
They will take all of them to the high-post -- perimeter. AD will have to guard someone. Wiggins needs to be guarded there, so Bron and AD will go further. It's not much, but probably the best they can do. Also, someone suggested (Kenny?) they go zone on D? I pray they do. Rui, AR and DAR would have a field day.
