Yes on trading for Davis OR waiting until he's an FA; either way, suits me. Top 5 player in his prime; you have to pursue him. That's a no-brainer. Nevertheless, the situation is fluid and subject to many changes over the course between the present and next year. We'll see...
Oh great .... trader LVBD is back. Can't wait to ship out our fabulous future all star talent for the buy a team now mentality .....
Dont gut the team for AD, there is something special brewing in LA and they can still add another start without trading
Bobby brings up a great point in how Boston couldn't trade for a designated rookie extension contract, like AD, this season without Ky heading out in the deal. Once Ky opts out and signs his new deal in the summer of '19, that's when they're allowed to trade for players like AD again. And let's say they figure out a way to ship Hayward/Smart and a plethora of picks to spare from including Brown & Tatum in a trade package, they still run into problems. Since AD's current designated rookie extension deal doesn't expire till the summer of 2021 (at the earliest), Boston can't designate both Brown and Tatum to 6 year rookie extensions (and potentially keep then on the cheap), which means they are forced to only designate one and potentially lose the other in free agency (kinda like the dubs are forced to do between Dae-dae and Klay). Lakers would face the same problem if we somehow trade for AD, sparing both Zo and BI in the package with the intention of designating both to 6yr rookie extension deals. Salary matching withstanding, this pretty much implies that if we trade for AD, either Zo or BI have to head out in a potential deal if both are looking for 6yr rookie extensions, since we can only designate one of them.
I think there's a solid shot the Lakers try to build a package for Davis based around ONE of Ball and Ingram and I think they're going to try to use Lonzo. The Lakers may need to convince Pope to take a trade to make things work. Ball/Hart/Pope/Beasley/Wagner/picks. That's a hell of a package. It leaves us with: Rondo/? Stephenson/Svi Ingram/? LeBron/Kuzma Davis/McGee That's nuts. We'd also still have cash to spend.
Zo is still on his rookie deal, right? Might be more advantageous to trade BI who is for an extension sooner?
It might, but Ingram looks closer to popping and LeBron is gushing over him. I'm holding on to him if I can.
@therealdeal It all starts with AD demanding out. If/when that happens, NOP will decide to blow it up and that means they would want to get off of Jrue's deal as well. If they are open to trading for Zo, then I can see them moving Jrue off ball like they did with him when Rondo was there. But still, they're probably more receptive to Zo if they can get off of Jrue's deal...but I just feel they're going to push hard for BI instead. @LaVarBallsDad BI is extension eligible next summer...so we're going to have to decide to designate him then. If we do, his extension won't kick in till the 2020/21 season. So if he agrees to an extension and we try to trade him in 2019/20 season, he's going to be a poison pill contract (where he counts as 7.3m in outgoing salary for us, but would count as the average of his contract extension ie 20m+ in incoming salary for the team trading for him.) That makes a trade much more difficult since salary matching would be harder to achieve to make a legal trade. However, our cap space would make it easier in that regard. Btw, league execs already thinking AD is either LA or Boston bound.
As much as I'd like to believe this is possible, Ingram would likely be gone in any trade that involved AD. The reason being is Ball and change isn't going to beat Boston's offer. Rozier, Hayward, picks is better and much easier to put together.
Ok, cool. Magic/Lebron/Rich will be working vicariously and speaking to Davis through his camp or could it be possible for James to speak to Davis directly? They have the same agent. Either way, we have a very promising young core, and if all goes well, could increase their trade value playing next to Lebron. Also, if we keep Rondo, he could be another recruiting chip for us when we pursue Davis.
Hopefully the Klutch factor will play in our favor . I think the A.D quest will decide which team is going to win a couple of titles after this season ... and C Bags have a s***load of assets
