This feels absolutely nothing like the Kawhi situation lol. With Kawhi, we were chasing another team’s free agent, got held hostage in the process, and then he ended up signing with another championship contender that also had max cap space. Right now, we have AD’s bird rights and there is NO team that still has max cap room. Unless AD wants to sign with the Knicks for well below the max or we’ve secretly been negotiating a sign and trade, he’s not going anywhere. He’ll be ready to rock the purple and gold for training camp. I doubt Windhort’s idea that he’s stalling to see what Giannis does, but if hypothetically that was the case and AD took a 1+1 for that reason, that would be a good thing. Such a move would NOT be us convincing AD to take the 1+1 for a pipe dream at Giannis, at risk of losing AD. That move would be AD himself wanting the possibility of pairing with Giannis, and him having the sense that it is actually a realistic chance.
He could be waiting on some medical decisions to see if he should risk to get to the super max. I do not see why there needs to be a rush. AD is not going anywhere. This is strictly a decision on whether to take the max or wait to take the max later. Nothing more.
1+1 player option would make the most sense since it's going to get him the most money and also helps the Lakers + aligns his contract with Bron.
Why does AD keep posting IG stories with Cheese emojis and angry faces? He's done this several times now
Always falling down, looking hurt and dismayed. At least, he is not like auditioning for Best Actress with a wheelchair.
