He's waiting for the Lakers to finish out the roster and then decide if he wants a 1+1 or a longer deal. No other team even has the cap to offer AD the money we can because no team believes he is leaving the Lakers. He's guaranteed to re-sign with the Lakers. Woj said on-air the other day that AD isn't leaving the Lakers. I'm guessing that AD was willing to take less if the Lakers had a good move to help the roster but since we've got all the pieces we need, I'm guessing AD will make a decision very soon. Reports are he is waiting until after Thanksgiving.
The plan all along has been to let the other moves happen first, then AD signs. Don't stress. AD returning is a done deal.
You shouldn't be concerned. AD said he won't be signing until after Thanksgiving because he wants to look at the roster, see how things are structured, and decide from that how many years he wants to sign on for. He's coming back no question
It's a tough decision if you think about it. More so now with Klay getting hurt and the fact that two of of the biggest stars the last two years have gotten torn Achilles. Does he take the max now and play it safe, or wait 2 years and get the super max. My instincts tell me to take the money now. Better to get 200 million now than 250 later. Maybe.
The 1 + 1 offers the most options and flexibility for everyone. The 2 + 1 gives AD the most security in case of injury but it does tie him down to the team Summer 2021 if AD and LBJ opt out - Sign Giannis Max - Sign AD 1 + 1 - Sign Lebron less than max (<- I believe this is what D-Wade did to make the Big 3 work in Miami)
Likely a 1+1 or 2+1 for sure. Klutch loves those contracts for superstars because every year, they just force the team to make improvements. Also, AD is going to want to get that supermax 10 year contract so unlikely he signs longer than two years.
Summer 2021 class could be ridiculous if a bunch of guys opt out too. We just saw Hayward opt out of $34 mil and end up with $120 mil. contract AD Bron Giannis Gobert Kawhi PG Blake CP3 Oladipo Lowry Holiday DDR Conley Drummond This is why NYK is hesitant to pull the trigger on Westbrook, they got the cap to attract a few of these guys. Not to mention there will be a ton of mid level FAs hit the market who just signed 2 year contracts with a 2nd year PO Riley handed out a whole bunch of 1 year deals as well to set up for summer 2021. Cuban is lining up his pieces to cash in during summer 2021. https://www.si.com/nba/mavericks/ne...pitch-to-giannis-the-cap-the-depth-the-pieces
Wowieeeeeee. AD+Bron+Giannis? That's easily 4-5 titles. Surround them with shooters and it's OVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
In one season, AD became: a champion, an improved midrange shooter and a lot more resilient when injured (I think AD and Bron were a good influence on each other to play defence and play hurt).
Not that he ever phoned it in with the Pelicans or sat for no reason, but it's certainly easier to push your body through pain and injuries when you're playing for something. At some point you question why you're killing yourself out there when the front office isn't capable matching your effort?
very true, potentially 200+ million is at stake for him career wise, and your front office can't get you a decent supporting cast?
and somewhere between 95% and 100% of teams hoping to acquire a big name FA via cap space will be disappointed again. and after the top 5 on that list, i'm not sure why you offer big cash to any of them. so you swing and miss on AD or giannis (the two guys REALLY worth long-term max deals), and you're stuck with a fat sack of cash to blow on the likes of derozan and holiday? have i mentioned how much i dislike hoarding space? and i really won't like it if AD signs a shorter deal with us due to the giannis stuff. it puts us at risk of losing a superstar because we're trying to get more when we just proved we don't need more.
