Noooooooooooooooooo Giannis Antetokounmpo is the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Chris Haynes August 25, 2020, 3:18 PM https://s5o.ru/storage/simple/ru/edt/e4/c1/13/25/ruee9c860a1ba.jpg
uh - wtf? How did GIANNIS win DPOY? I didn't even know he was in the running for it...and to beat AD in a LANDSLIDE is absolutely crazy. Oh well - more fuel for AD in the playoffs I guess?
AD was the league's most impactful defender this year, to my eye. can giannis shut down jokic in the post and chase ballhandling guards at key moments? maybe, but not as well, imo. really curious to see how they use him against houston.
I'm not mad about Giannis winning DPOY. He's very similar to AD in terms of his length, physique, and defensive capabilities. Let's remember that we all want Giannis on the Lakers in the next couple of years. Giannis+AD+older LeBron would be unstoppable. Just get 3 and D players and it's a wrap. Vs the Rockets, I fully expect AD to average 30/15. No one on the Rockets can or should be able to contain him. Tucker, Jeff Green, and Robert Covington are their frontcourt... It should be BBQ chicken for him all day. Lakers in 5 and only because Rockets will get incredibly hot and just win a game based off shooting.
Shaq: “Lakers should dominate against the Rockets. I don’t want to see AD shoot no mid-range jumpers.”
They're going to try to bait the Lakers into posting up AD against their shorter but bulky guys. Houston will throw hard doubles which AD does not deal with well. Hopefull the Lakers just let him operate at 15 feet out face up and then shoot over their short guys. Unlike the post game, no one on Houston has a chance to contest AD's midrange jumper
I hope they don't listen to Shaq: Houston baits bigs into trying to post them up They have guys who have a lot of bulk so even though they're short they don't give back down easy and because they play quick guys they can double and recover easily. What they're vulnerable against is they have no rim protection, if AD is hitting the mid range jumper and they try to close out, once he gets a step its all over.
just get lebron going downhill with the ball at their 6'5" back line defenders. do it every time down the floor. every time. when lebron sits let AD work from the elbow and teach him the easy reads off doubles. i'm sure they'll just get into a stupid three point shooting contest like okc has done. 7-45????!!! my goodness. attack the rim. isn't SGA supposed to be so slithery or something? well, get by eric gordon's fat a** and lay it in.
Send LeBron to the post and make them pay, then. AD has a slender lower body so he's not particularly great at posting up against defenders with a good mass on them. I've noticed that he actually does worse against shorter players because they can push his lower body out of position. But that won't work against LeBron. I don't suspect Javale or Dwight will get a lot of playing time but then again, Frank Vogel is incredibly strict with following his rotations. KCP Caruso Kuzma AD LeBron I think that lineup would work well for us vs the Rockets.
Have we ever seen a P&R with Bron and AD this season? Maybe when the time is right Vogel will unleash them?
