Almost every star is getting injured and at the worst times

Even Giannis and Tatum couldn't stay healthy in these playoffs .

Since this has turned into the raise other people's BP thread I'm going to throw one out for the nervous nellies, We don't need another big since we found Castleton. He can carry AD...lol.

He can't. But he has potential and may have a role at some point

with AD's injury history, it seems weird that our thinnest position is center. i kind of get the logic that without AD, we're screwed in big matchups/playoffs, but if we have a capable backup, we can weather a 15-game regular season absence a lot better. as it stands, you're asking jaxson hayes to play 30+ (really, 48?) useful minutes in games AD isn't available.

yeah, that would basically lock him til the end. guessing the last couple years of the deal won't be pretty, but we treat our stars well, and other stars notice. rinse, repeat. good news is we haven't mortgaged all those picks, so when we're paying AD a ton of money to be a highly diminished version of himself, we'll collect a couple lotto picks in the process, like when kobe was fading at the end.

I dunno … that’s a tad negative to what Rob’s been doing of late, smart GMing and locking guys up who are going to get even better in the future. Maybe there won’t be another lotto period in our future? Not that middle of the pack is great either. But I think we are finally settled well with our basketball people and Rob being a good GM going forward after having gotten past the Westbrook debacle with Flying Colors?

possibly. i can imagine AD having al horford impact later, and that keeps us from the doldrums. but my point is that i think we have to prepare for a trough post-lebron, and if AD is eating salary it's not a huge deal. houston is paying fvv and brooks 60 million next year just to bridge the gap.

we want players to see lebron and AD get cash and freedom and appreciation here and to want it for themselves.

I’m nervous about giving him the extension, but we have to.
It’s the pattern they have already set and I don’t have to love it, but I get it. Showing loyalty to guys who have won you Championships is great for the brand, even if the last couple of years you aren’t getting great value.

AD will be an all star player for another 3 years and solid for 3 after that. It’s not such a bad idea to extend him. We just need to trade for Doncic over that time period.

We have to do it. We just need to assume he plays 50-60 games and build around it. Rui and Vando (guess we extend him at some point) already help and we just need a couple bigs every year that can cover for him

It will help also to drive a Luka, Booker or Tatum to come be the next Kobe/LeBron of the team.
Imagine the hype in 2/3 years if any of those guys is a Laker. The Crypt erupts first night

i realize that this stuff is often kept quiet, but has there been any word whatsoever on AD's injuries since the season ended.

sounded like they were going to have to look at his foot over the summer and even consider surgery, but we've heard nothing about it. same with lebron, actually.

The only thing we got about their injuries was a quick comment from Rob

    https://www.si.com/nba/lakers/news/...n-health-of-anthony-davis-lebron-james-ak1987

Per Jovan Buha of The Athletic, team president Rob Pelinka recently supplied a minor update on the statuses of both his team's injury-prone stars while in Las Vegas for a Summer League excursion.

“We feel good about the offseason and the treatment that AD and LeBron are getting,” Pelinka said. “All the reports have been good around both those injuries, in terms of the guys being able to move past them.”

He’s out of contention because he’s a Laker. Seriously, the media at large hate us. When was the last time a Laker won a major award, MVP, DPOY, 6th man, etc? Shaq and Kobe won ONE each, that’s a joke.

I got no issue locking up AD. He's 30 years old, he's a franchise player, he's the best defensive player in the league, and as others have said, we treat our stars well and other stars will notice.

Plus, the C Bags just paid Jaylen Brown $304M and he'll get paid $69M in the last year of his deal. Yes he's younger by 4 years but still man that's an insane amount for a guy that's not a franchise guy and has never led a team by himself.

Get AD locked up and maybe that also gives him extra motivation to stay healthy? I hope they biuld incentives into the deal too so that if he's healthy he gets bumped up in comp by A LOT.

What's the max contract in years AD can sign? That's my only worry
