I was worried he would look a step slow, or revert to the timid/complacent play we had seen from him last year… but he quickly looked exactly like the dominant AD from his stretch before the injury!

Screw the idea of going “all in” to maximize Lebron’s window… we need to go “all in” to maximize this opportunity in AD’s window! He is one of THE best players in the league, and nobody is going to want to face him in the playoffs when he’s healthy

One thing is for sure we just got a lot bigger and it's no longer like watching Darv's Fellowship Of The Ring out there every game anymore. Just a squad with AD/Rui/LBJ and whoever as guards is bigger than we've been used to and certainly big enough for this league. Imagine if we play TB, AD, Rui, LBJ (@PG) and Walker or Reaves. Last night watching Collins and Poeltl get manhandled by AD was such a nice feeling. Those guys absolutely could not cover him.

Hakeem was lightening quick and that footwork!

AD's quicker than it looks, imo. he's constantly leaving guys flat in mid post area. he's probably quicker than hakeem was, tbh. dream had better footwork. agility similar.

Hakeems' footwork was so amazing for a big
Shocking but I agree I think AD's a better "athlete": quicker first step, more explosion. AD's best games are when he gets the FT line just an insane amount of time as guys just can't get a body on him. of course hakeem post game is at another level than AD whose more comfortable with the face up game and hakeem's durability is another huge plus in his favor

I always felt AD was more this generations Kevin Durant: two wiry, uber athletic PF/C's who liked to face up

Yeah, I remember when Kobe worked out with The Dream to expand his post game.

AD's also stronger than people think, imo. guys bounce off him, and he finishes through a lot of contact--again, like hakeem. hakeem was definitely more durable, but when available, i might actually argue that AD is the better player. i know, blasphemy. neither is/was a great passer, nor a great shooter. but my goodness, they own the paint and can badger guards on defense. that's once-a-decade at least. probably even less frequent.

AD getting hurt has hurt a legacy that could (and maybe still) as good as Hakeem.
Hakeem took out Robinson, Ewing, and Shaq (really young shaq but still)
AD completely outplayed Jokic, Bam in the Bubble but hasn't had another chance. At the time no one though much about it but Jokic may win 3 MVPS in a row! He beats Embiid and/or Jokic again which I totally think he can if healthy and the comparison from a legacy standpoint becomes intriguing

Come on now, better than the dream? That would make AD top 10 all time for me and I don’t agree. He’s great but he is still a level below defensively imo. Offensively, Dream was better clearly. And in todays age with spacing I think would be unguardable.

Play 4-out with Hakeem today and it’s game over because that guy can’t be played off the court with small ball on the defensive end either.

Hakeem was better than Shaq imo. He was great. I think AD defense in 2020 was on par with the greats like Hakeem and Russell. Those guys can cover ground on help out defense along with protecting the rim and playing low post D. Dream was a devastating 1 on 1 player, kobe esq, but didn't have the range of AD. though AD isn't a prolific 3 point shooter, I give the edge to dream, AD has more to prove to exceed him imo

yeah, watch the clips. you telling me AD can't execute most of those moves with that kind of space? look at how many dribbles he gets without a double! this is why comparing across eras is dangerous. hakeem was great because he's about as good as AD is now, but it was 30 years ago. much like i'd kick bob cousy's a**.

he won't exceed him because he'll never play enough, as pioneer mentioned.

and this also speaks to svtzr's point: top XX all time takes entire careers into consideration, and longevity looms large here, which is why bill walton never makes anyone's list. many older hoop fans i know put him among the very top centers in history at his peak. his peak was just, like, 3 years during which he missed half the season anyway.

Just once I’d love to see AD wear the Kobe 9’s.

Hakeem was better than young Shaq and proved it in the Finals. He remained a better defender, shot blocker and outside shooter than Shaq ever became. But, prime Shaq in 2000-2002 would have steamrolled Hakeem.

hakeem was a better all around player than shaq, especially with the fundamentals. but shaq was by far the more dominant player and arguably the most dominant player in NBA history alongside wilt

Best 3-year peaks cause the brain to explode
Shaq, Walton, Kawhii, AD were really good if you look at their best 3years
