To me all signs point to soft tissue injury. The 2nd and 3rd opinions, the hush around this thing. And being in a harder-to-deal-with area than the ankle, the 2nd and 3rd opinions may be about the extent of the injury. No boot, no crutches sort of takes away a lot of the worry for me though.

I agree: The thing is MRI's are great for soft tissue injuries while CT is great for bones but not soft tissue.
I guess there may have been non-specific swelling on the MRI is my guess without clear ligament/tendon damage. May need a repeat MRI 1-2 weeks after the injury after the initial swelling goes down to see if they are missing something small perhaps?

Would be shocked if there is a fracture or something like that in the foot as that would be picked up by the scans

Well I’m glad they at least told us what’s going on via MacMen. I get that they don’t exactly know yet and that’s why he’s getting it checked by different experts. I agree with Pioneer, there may be swelling in there that is obscuring the scans of the area and may need to be reevaluated. The fact that he’s walking around on it, and taking planes with no boot also seems like a good sign to me. But we shall see.

I know in pediatric cases they assume a small fracture on xrays if there is swelling in the typical places associated with small hard to diagnose fractures but with a guy like AD I would suspect they would do a high-resolution CT rather than just a plain X-ray so I'm sticking with my no fracture guess

I’m confused about why the report says “or if surgery would be required”.

If they’re not seeing specific damage to a bone or ligament in the imaging, why would surgery even be a consideration? Like how do you plan a surgery without knowing what you’re going under the knife to repair?

If you look how the injury happened - basically kicking and hitting a wall with the outside of the foot - my guess like a lot of people on Twitter is that it's a question of avulsion fracture of the peroneus muscles (the part of the bone where the muscle ligament attaches on to is ripped off). Those muscles evert your foot: in these cases the muscle and the bone it's attached to need to be surgically fixed back in place. My guess is the problem is that they can't seem to confirm it with imaging they've done on his foot so they're trying to figure out if it's something less severe like ligament strain/partial tear

Yeah that doesn’t really say much. If it’s a stress fracture I’m pretty sure that’s really bad. If it’s a different type, not as much. At least they said something though. Season was over with no moves with AD healthy, we were a play-in team. Without AD and no moves made, season is over today.

Yep as predicted - they can't find anything on the scan despite the initial physical exam being concerning

Ok but why bring him back and risk further injury or damage for a possible play-in spot? That’s what bugs me about this FO, either go all in or don’t, stop straddling the line between trying to sell tickets/pretending to put out a good product vs just being bad and rebuilding post-LeBron.

They should do at least one trade (Bev+Nunn, possibly Jones) and go for the playoffs. If AD can play, go all in. Otherwise, what's the point of all this? You could instead blow it up, acquire younger players and picks and rebuild, but we're obviously not doing that either.

I don’t think we know enough about the injury to definitively act like there would be a risk of further injury if he came back in a few weeks.

If in 10 days AD isn’t feeling pain or any limitations, and the imaging that already seems to have shown only non-specific damage comes back looking clean, why exactly would we hold him out longer or put him under the knife if there is no medical justification for it?

Sorry but that seems like a contrarian take to attack the FO no matter what

Cancel the season, sell the team, Lebron should go ahead and retire.

This is vintage street clothes, when they keep the injury like it's a riddle, he won't be back soon
