nba players in general are bad at setting screens. it's always baffled me. my hs coach would never have let anyone play the way most nba players play in this regard. screens and boxing out. just basic things that help you win and make the game easier.

All of our big three are pretty elite at finishing at the rim. Even Westbrook is good by the percentile. But 2 of the 3 are terrible shooters so it's easy to just pack the paint. Hopefully AD can get back to his Pelicans/1st year Lakers jumper, but when he shoots it I expect it to miss. It's usually clearly off as soon as he releases it.

yeah, it's mental at this point. it's why his FTs have dropped, too. he needs to see a few go down, and things could revert. but it's not happening.

but we have to get him better shots, too. you don't get on track by taking shots from bad spots or in bad situations.

I think the bad shots are more on him than the system.
I mean the above exchanged with one of our coaches is pretty glaring

i can live with the first shot, and the second, where it looks like he bobbled which allowed a challenge.

that last shot--why is he catching on the angle 25ft from the basket? when has that ever been his strong spot? isn't the point of running him at center to avoid him being in that spot on the floor?

The lack of a true PG and shooting is really impacting him and I think it's really underrated how much. Lebron is Lebron but a big needs space to operate which he doesn't have and there no Rondo type to get him easy shots as well. He's got things in his game like screening and trouble with doubles which make him just a notch below an MVP type at his best but the Lakers have really not optimized him in any way with the personnel they have

I think this has directly impacted his shooting: more pressure to hit jumpers when you don't get the easy jumpers to go in

When you only watch the better half of ADs effort it’s hard for me to take your defense of a fairly passive performance in earnest.

I love AD but this is simply setting the bar way too low. He needs to play with fire again if we want to even stand a chance this year. He was just ok. He needs to be more aggressive.

are you implying that he was bad in the second half or that he was bad on offense in the first half? the latter is false. can't speak to the former.

nothing AD could do was going to win that game from what i saw. nor lebron. you can't win 2 vs. 5.

I thought he had good energy and effort out there on D before GS took the game seriously and made a joke out of us. His shot is still concerning and we don't have the roster to set AD up successfully as the focal point of the offense.

What bothers me is that if last night is the ask from AD, he will be hurt and missing the season by game 25. That was some Jason Statham Crank frantic energy out there and it's not sustainable. If Ham wants that, he has to get Turner here and hope between the two of them, they stay healthy enough.

right. i watched that half and hearing people grouse about AD after the game is weird. he was all over the place on both ends. gs is just so much better than we are. this isn't a new fact we learned, nor is it something AD was going to solve with grit.

I didn't mean ... "our D" in the last game. I mean he, first and foremost, invested his efforts on D. Having Dwight and AC and KCP, AB and even Green didn't hurt, of course, but AD was the anchor you have to go through when you go to our basket.

Yes, having better defenders helps, but I think he's given up, as it hasn't been the case in the last 2 years...

i thought he gave up on d in the first part of last year, but since then, he's been locked in on that end, imo (his second stint last year and preseason/game 1 this year). his offense has actually still been pretty good despite his shooting woes and a roster not built to optimize his abilities on that end.

Don't know. But then again, we used to have defensive schemes.

Trade him while he still shows value. He's not Mr. Glass. He's Dr. Glass. Or. Sir Glass.
