we weren't bad at picking good players, we were bad at developing them

if injuries are constant and missing games, why does it matter how the injury occurred?

Right. There's pressure that comes with being a Laker too that I think guys avoid if the team is too bad. I think that if we are competitive with cap room and a guy like AD, we can still use the intangibles like Hollywood and Laker mystique to get guys to sign here.

the high picks were ok at best. part of it was bad luck--getting the #2 pick in the towns draft (though murray and booker went after russell, so that was bad).

part of it was bad choices: lonzo ball at 2 was bad, and many of us thought so at the time. i wanted to trade down or out, and tatum went 3rd. ouch.

as for developing...i don't know where i stand. ingram was on a gradual upward trajectory, imo, and he finally got his three point shot down after he left. was that coaching or just physical maturation? who knows. doesn't matter. AD is way better.

lonzo's mental problems weren't going anywhere here, imo.

russell's a very similar player to the one we had, and that less about development and more about our FO using him to get off one of the worst contracts ever signed.

because sometimes we don't land on people's feet or have bodies thrown into our legs. but we always, you know, walk around or play basketball. i really don't see how this point is escaping you, tbh.

I don’t want to keep going round and round but this might explain some of our differences on AD’s heath situation. I tend to think AD missing half a seasons when he’s in his late 20’s is the opposite of Lebron missing the same time in his late 30’s. I believe since AD was hurt earlier in his career he is less likely to come back and be healthy. I tend to think older players (especially Lebron’s age) are living on borrowed time and Father Time is undefeated. I could very well be wrong but it’s my perception. Steph is an example of guys missing huge chunks of time when they are young and coming back but I feel there are more examples of young guys being hurt and continuing to be hurt for chucks of time.

what's a huge chunk? fewest games AD played prior to joining us was 61. he played 75 and 75 and was on pace for that again when NOP sat him due to the trade request. he played 62/71 games in his first season with us.

i just don't get how he's MR GLASS and many, many other players aren't.

Huge chucks are half of seasons. Like I said earlier, I don’t care what his availability was in NO, I care about his Laker availability. Fair or not, that’s my standard. I personally think there are also other Mr. Glass players and I don’t want those guys on my team either. If our salary was split up more evenly, it wouldn’t be such a big deal but when 3 players take up most of the cap availability is everything.

Edit: I should have said availability is important not everything. Russ has been healthy and that has actually been a negative for our team.

Come on folks, it’s not that hard to stay civil. I know this season sucks, but the level that this is getting personal doesn’t benefit anyone. I’ll take my own advice on that as well.

I keep pointing to Kawhi, sad as AD's outages have been, after this season which we all know will be a big doughnut on games played, Kawhi will have played 45.6% of available games for the past 5 seasons. This takes into account the covid shortened seasons so I did it as a %

AD in the same 5 seasons has played 72.28% of available games to be played. If he is out 6 weeks with this injury it will drop to 70.44%

Even so, he's played 25% more games than Kawhi over 5 years.

the season is over, sit AD and let his rehab. Lebron, let him chase the scoring title, and not play any defense. He has earned it. Crappy year for he and his team but might as well let him score away because he can do that blindfolded. Let him break the record as a Laker. Next year is likely a wash too. Score away.

Sorry brother, but no player has ever earned this right. Disrespect the game to chase an individual stat? Never ok imo.
