It's amazing how fast people bail on this team "oh no, season's over, we should have never got AD. Covid, Westbrick, boo hooo"

With the play-in it's almost impossible that we don't make the play-offs this year. Guys get back from covid and we can maintain over .500 ball without AD and he'll be back before AllStars. We've never even had a full team with Nunn and Ariza.

lol. AD never played with another all star in NO.

How’d Kobe do without another allstar?

    This thread is noxious.

That's what he had last year. He played 10% of minutes at center (like he wants) alongside the #1 ranked POA and perimeter defense (allowing him to roam like he wants) and a spacing big. Injuries and politics screwed us but last year's team had a much higher ceiling than this year's team.

I'll never understand this last offseason.

yep. everyone hated last year's team, but it was miles better than this one. we just had unfortunate injuries. this year, we have both an inferior team AND unfortunate injuries.

this past offseason was 100% about improving the 3 pt shooting after how poorly they shot the 3 ball last season, especially in the playoffs

no one paused for a second and thought about the defense. it was just about loading up on as many 3 pt shooters as possible

Lakers should have enough to compete without AD, Lebron and Westbrook need to get their s*** together

I thought we competed well without him last night. Fought hard and took it down to the wire. You are right though if we can get some guys back from protocols we should have enough to hold down the fort.

So now AD is not just a Robin, he's a "solid" one...at best . I guess there are other, beter Robins around the league lol. The level to which this guy is being underappreciated by Lakers fans never ceases to amaze me.

I agree with this whole Robin thing, as I feel it refers to mentality. He’s a supreme talent, but heck, so was McGrady. Doesn’t make you a leader or a winner.

but if you pair a “solid” Robin (beta) with the best Robin out there (Bron), a solid defense minded roster and decent coaching, you have a shot at a chip. A bubbles chance in hell if you will.

when you have witnessed a couple of the Batman’s (mentally) to ever play, none of these guys hit the Batman mark except Westbrook, and he hasn’t been able to put it all together yet himself. But he has the mentality.

this team goes as far as Westbrook takes us this year by sheer will. Might not be enough, but without him, we’re steaming garbage. A team with Lebron and AD is steaming garbage. Holy smokes Batman! How is this even possible?

My problem isn't with AD's abilities or even the heights he can reach. He can be the best player on a championship team, but he needs a special kind of second best player; one that will push him because he just straight up disappears some nights. I realize everyone has off games, but AD's off nights seem more effort related than just bricking shots.

Ultimately, this season isn't about AD's play on the court. It's about AD and Lebron's GM abilities off it.

I don't understand how anyone watching games can argue the effort part. Really puzzling.

I used to think this as well but seeing how well guys like Jrue Holiday even Rondo have played outside of NO, I think he did have a good teams.
The problem is for a long time in the West you needed a great team to succeed: I mean just look at the talent you went from SAS Duncan/kawhii/manu/TP teams to OKC (3 future MVPS) to maybe the greatest team of all time in GS.

Kind of weird that Lakers fans are so downtrodden TBH a title and contending teams are hard to do unless you have at least 1 MVP caliber player, 1 MVP adjacent player or multiple all starts around him.

rondo really wasn't very good in NO (or, honestly, anywhere outside of boston and maybe that one year in sacramento). when holiday was healthy, the pelicans made the playoffs and got beat by the durant warriors. and holiday had to be a third guy on a roster with the reigning mvp to get a ring after every other team had major injuries.

seriously, AD had nothing for years. he got lebron and immediately won a title.

we had junk for years, fell flat on our faces in lebron's first year, then won a title when we got AD.

now AD is the problem. whatevs, folks.

I’m still thrilled that we have AD for his prime. More than thrilled, ecstatic. I’m a huge fan and when he’s healthy he’s a top 5 two way player in the league.

That said the injury prone aspect is of course the biggest drawback with him and it seems to be real as evidenced by these past couple years.

The other issue is that maybe because of his injuries he’s shown a propensity to play soft or passive at times. It would be better if that weren’t the case but until he shows he can stay consistently healthy I think that’s just something we have to live with. We know he gives his all when it matters in the playoffs. That’s the most important part to me. Glad he’s here.

That is too optimistic a take for the doom and gloom crowd. Sometimes it seem like a fair amount of fans, want to see the team fail, just so they can say " I told you so!". I don't understand what that is supposed to accomplish, but some folks are weird.

Boogie getting hurt, killed the best chance AD had for a serious run. That team was dangerous.

Still would like to have seen how that first year would have turned out if LeBron hadn't injured his "groan" and had the key players all been healthy. Would have been another 3 months of gelling and then maybe could have done some damage in the playoffs.

Lonzo and Ingram had to be shut down at the end of the season anyway that year. We weren't going to do anything without them. That lottery pick helped facilitate the Davis trade as well.

I did say "had all the key players been healthy" did I not? And you can tell me we still wouldn't have done jack, but you can't tell me I wouldn't have liked to have seen it to see how much jack we could have done.
