That's without zooming in. It's about 20 rows up. We were one row below and too the right of Mychal Thompson and John Ireland in the espn 710 booth

This. It was an off night based on the easy ones he missed. But every other team in the league would kill to have one of their two best players put that up on a good night. He still hit a big 3 and helped close it out at the line.

I think the thigh bruise and refs swallowing their whistle also factored in. Had it been a regular game in those two regards, he is flirting with 50.

If AD continues to be useless in the post, we are in deep trouble. He either throws up an insane brick or becomes a turnover machine.

We play all this small teams and if we can't do **** to counter that, we will struggle. He really needs to look in the mirror and man up.

I don't know why he always goes for the dad in the turn around. Just power thru. Even with a double in the middle you have to out pressure in them

He does well against bigger bigs than he does against smaller defenders. It's really frustrating watching Jaylen Brown be able to guard him. I don't think the C Bags make it to the Finals but vs the Clippers, if AD does not show up vs their WEAK frontcourt, there will be questions about whether the Lakers should sign him for the long-term future. At the end of the day, AD is great but LeBron can handle Kawhi and then some. Can AD handle Harrell/Zubac? Because he's going to have to drop 30/15 on them for us to beat the Clippers.

in fairness, lebron ducked kawhi in both meetings, whereas AD took him on d at some key points (and made his life difficult).

and smaller guys can only guard AD if they're allowed to foul with impunity. he's not shaq. he can't just bulldoze. everyone likes to (pejoratively) compare him to pau, but it's similar--he can't just run over dudes.

again, if the league called the post by the book, we'd play him at center and he might average 40. instead, you can't touch folks 30 feet from the hoop and you can just blatantly grab arms within 15 feet. need our organization to point this out as the playoffs start with some of these smallball punks thinking they're just going to throw the original nintendo fat hockey guys out there to get into people's legs and muck up the game.

Maybe not 30/15, but I see what you're saying. He needs to step it up against them.

At the end of the day, the numbers don't really matter...

AD can score 15 or 40...thats not what wins or loses us games. We need a strategy to play these small teams...we need to be able to run the offense through AD, when he is guarded by 6-6 wing players.

Even if he had big numbers vs C Bags...he knocked down a few threes at the end. But that is not my ideal go-to move in crunch time. AD is not a good enough shooter and we should create shots better than that...

When the game gets tight either LeBron shoots threes or AD shoots threes. Thats not a solution, thats a problem in itself. Because we aren't able to get high percentage shots around the rim even though we have the best big in the NBA. Thats not good enough, sorry. Especially small teams with tough wings like the Clippers, C Bags, Bucks, Rockets have all beaten the Lakers because we haven't been able to take advantage of their size issues.

We need a dominant presence offensively, that is only on AD. Defensively I have nothing to complain, he is sensational. He is not a liability on the court by any means. But we can't continue to play teams with their largest player 6-6 and not dominate them inside.

I feel like AD is going to have to feel the intensity of a deep playoff run with a contender to understand the physicality needed to win it all. I’m honestly not sure he will have that revelation this year during these playoffs, but I think he will get it eventually.

Vogel has been changing things up for these first two games after the all star break, and once we get Morris’s time figured out, I hope Vogel focuses on practicing low post bully ball. Davis needs reps with backing little guys down before the playoffs.

^I fully agree. I think it would help AD to watch film and see the passes out of the double team. If he can somehow get the necessary awareness and make the right reads, he will suddenly become a better passer.

Passing isn't exactly a purely magical skill. It is more about IQ, awareness, willingness that makes a good passer. If AD learns to pass out of double teams, we will already be much better. What hasn't worked is just trying to do a spin move to the middle and throw up a 10 foot brick. He took some wild hooks vs. the C Bags...you might as well register them as TOs rather than missed shots.

I'm not so focused on numbers. Obviously his numbers are great overall. I'm more interested in the recipe how we get them and the sustainability of those numbers. AD shooting and hitting b2b threes in crunch time is not really something I'd feel good about for the future. And the Lakers inability to have a clear structure in crunch time is also a problem. And the inability to make FTs makes it worthless for LeBron to drive to the rim because he will not convert the FTs.

Vogel needs to run Dwight and McGee at him in practice and not call any fouls against them. that would be the best scenario prep I can think of

i mean, houston's beating everyone playing like this--not just us. as with everything, the proof will be in the playoff pudding. if houston wins it all, we basically have to consider divesting ourselves of all bigs except AD. and the nuggets will need to dump jokic, utah will need to dump gobert, and so forth.

i agree it's frustrating, but imo, this is what the league has wanted with the way they've decided to officiate. i was watching dallas play minny for a few minutes last night, and they called a foul on okogie for resting his hand on doncic near midcourt. by the book, it was definitely a foul. rick carlisle actually screamed for it for a full 4 seconds before they blew the whistle.

now, how many times does AD get a shoulder past the defender and have a hand on his chest and/or arm? but it's ok because it's closer to the basket? because he's tall? is sentient officiating these games? ;)

if placing your hand on the ballhandler while they face you is a foul, AD should average 30 FTAs a game until he just starts getting dunks and layups every trip down because teams have given up (a la harden).

except he won't see anyone that big. he knows how to handle that. he's taken care of jokic, and steven adams, and whatever other behemoths have been run at him on either end. he's struggling with the stumps. why? because the stumps are basically allowed to root him off spots (not legal) and run into his body when he floors it.

let's see if pj tucker gets to do that for a 7-game series before we freak out, though.

The old guys on this board could probably have a thread dedicated to the best combo of skinny/medium/fat players for that game.

AD had a bad game but part of the problem is our role players need to make more open 3s , if not the opponent will keep crowding AD in the paint with several bodies .

Unless you have a big who can establish very and early deep post position and put his opponent in the basket as Shaq used to do , post players will get crowded and "zoned up ".

AD has not the hook shots and post moves Pau had around the baskets either , he got a floater and others moves further from the basket.

The solution is to get AD towards the basket more in the move than on straight post ups imo .

What were the " points in the paint" numbers in Sunday's game ? I'm confident we still dominated big time .

Bron will play bully ball in the post in the playoffs , I'm not worried about that

yep ... I think AD will have to get through/draw the contact instead of getting away from it though .

On the late lay up he missed at the rim ( the 1st one) , if he's throwing his body/arms into Theis body after he faked the shot , he's getting 2FTs but he kind of get away from it and didn't get the call.

    PS :

There is no reason to freak out about Houston . They won' hit 50% of their 3s 4 times out of 7 in a playoffs series against us

i do wonder if we'll end up using lebron in the post against the smallballers like houston. that would be my move. he's such an outstanding passer. just park AD in the opposite corner and have him dive from the weak side to get a pass or crash the boards over top the munchkins.

That was something LeBron didn't really do vs Boston as well. If we're going to have Rondo and Bron play together, it makes absolutely zero sense for LeBron to stand in the three point line watching. Often times, he's just there standing waiting to get the ball back. That's just terrible offense and forces Rondo to be stagnant at times. In a lineup with Kuz, AD, Rondo, Bron, and KCP, I would love if KCP moves around like Klay, AD forcing screens for Kuz+Rondo+KCP, and for LeBron to be at the post to find cutters or get the mismatch. There's no reason for LeBron to have to try and create for everyone at all times.

Our best players don't embrace banging basketball, but if they come in with the right mindset (black swan), I believe they can both be very effective at it.

But they have to get rid of the excuses in their minds, take no prisoners, and take it directly at guys anticipating, embracing, and playing through the contact. Their nature is nice guy, but the playoffs aren't about nice guys. It's about who is nutting up and imposing their will.

I don't want to see 6'5" players imposing their will on either one of our stars or I'll be mentally throwing stuff at their children. JK
