Yeah. If our true competition is the Knicks then that favors us big time IMO.

Honestly though, I think the Knicks thing is just to kind of make this look a little better.

As @vasashi17 said, it looks like Paul is taking a different approach.

They are at least trying to make this look like it’s an open process instead of a lock to the Lakers probably to try and calm down the other teams.

If they wanted to go to the Knicks I don’t see the benefit in making this public announcement now.

The only advantage the Pels have for trading AD to the Knicks is to keep him out of the Western Conference. The Spurs did the same thing with Kawhi. Otherwise, it looks like a staged negotiation.

Can't see the Knicks happening. If he can't win with NOH, he can't win with NYK. AD is said to want to contend for a championship. Knicks are trash and I can't foresee them contending for another 4-5 years. Best they can hope for is they land Zion and he will excite Knicks fans for a few years, buy them time during their rebuild, and fans put the pitchforks down until his rookie contract is up and he runs as fast as he can from that dump. Knicks could try to sell him on their abilities to land KD this summer and then...maybe that's a team. But if KD stays, he's F'ed. BIG risk. NY media is brutal. I don't think AD wants to take the blame for the ineptitude of their FO.

Very curious that Boston is outside looking in per the latest from Yahoo. If that's the case, he's ours for the taking. And if fear is Kyrie is leaving. Where does he go? Can we cripple Boston in one fail swoop? Kill their dreams of AD and nab Kyrie this summer? Between the phone call that went public, the IG video Bron tagged Kyrie in, and this report...has me thinking.

Didn't Cuban/Mavs take on Bogut's 14m in exchange for the Dubs to renounce Barnes so that KD could be added via cap space?

Didn't Morey/Demps hook up with us before to pair Cp3 with the Mamba, sparing Bynum in the trade, even tho it was widely rumored that we would use him to go get Dwight (which we did) later.

With those two examples, that western squads helping another western squad establish would be dominant teams.

If we're aggressive enough (and it seems like we are)...we can find a 3rd team. And wouldn't it be appropriate if Magic looked to the Magic for an assist...

    Y'all remember this?

Fast forward and LA was looking into moving on DSJ, when it was rumored he was a target of Orlando.

Now all this talk about how Zo was "Untoucha-Ball" but with AD that has changed.

Sorry Sources, but I am not buying the NY angle. Not unless NO is putting that out there to attempt to create some sort of bidding war since Boston A) can't compete until this summer. B) are not high on AD's list. What have they done in over a decade to give anyone any faith in the long play? They haven't been relevant since Houston and Spree were there.

This x100. For AD, everyone except Lebron for the taking. Worry about the consequences later.

I half-joked earlier about it, but BK actually has kiddies that could pull off an AD trade.

The Knicks thing could be real, in that, if they trade Ziggy, Knox, Frank and Kanter's expiring deal, only Hardaway Jr and Lee would be on their books next year along with Noah's dead cap hit. That would allow NY to have roughly 35m in cap (enough for a 30%er) and if they can get off Lee or even stretch him, then KD becomes a possiblity.

However if Ziggy isn't included, dude has a 17m caphold next summer and it impacts a realistic shot at adding a max player next summer.

I’m definitely on the pessimistic side when it comes to Lakers and superstar trading rumors, but in a way this does feel different to me.

The Lakers were naive in thinking that PG was just going to walk to them so they blew off getting into any serious discussions with the Pacers. The Lakers wanted Kawhi and didn’t want to take the chance of blowing off negotiations with the Spurs, but they made one too many young guys untouchable and it never progressed.

This time, by all indications, this is the player the Lakers were eyeing all along AND they have pressure to make the trade now AND they are reported to be willing to move the young guys.

If the last part is true and this is what the Lakers have been waiting for, they cannot fail and need to get something done. Granted they won’t have enough cap to pull KD but maybe Kyrie or Kemba plays ball with a pay cut and we are infinitely better going into next season.

All that’s moot if the Pelicans don’t want any of this smoke.

    Doc,

I agree completely regarding AD being the target all along.

Let's not kid ourselves; Rich Paul has expertly navigated this whole situation. It reminds me when LeBron went back to Cleveland; and Love was already headed to Cleveland in July, but yet the league couldn't finalize the trade until August, if I remember correctly. Point is; they planned this ahead of time and took the all the steps to gift wrap this opportunity to the Lakers.

Well, here it is...Can Magic and company get it done? Let's see...
