Exactly. The clippersnake narrative isn't true per Rich. So you can redistribute the wealth with other players (outside of just Kawhi) or pocket it yourself to unlock an extension.

I personally would love to have him locked into a contract to bypass any potential drama next summer and if it costed us a guy like Cook or Kcp taking 3-4m less, I would have gone that route. I'm sure nearly everybody here would.

Sure, ideally it would have been taken from KCP or even more ideally him not signed. Cook is very useful. But that's not how it went down and all parties were in agreement. The very last part is the most important in that he wants to win and left the money so they could put in the organization's mind (along with his and LeBron's input no doubt) the best team around him and get it done in the time frame they wanted. Not saying that hypothetically it could not have been even perhaps better but it's just hypothetical ..... and AD with Rich's council chose to leave the money in the roster salaries kitty.

I like Cook too...he's our star whisper, so he's a must on the team. But there are those that believe in the Kcp Klutch tax, in which case, Cook's 3m jams up AD's trade kicker/extension route. So I was just trying to appease to those folks. But yeah I agree, Cook stays and Kcp gets a pay kut.

Hypothetically does this end our lil dance for now? Ideally I'll remain idle on this topic, till I find the mood to post something that badgers you...or you tag me in and take the lead. Till our next foxtrot bro...

Good win tonight. Caruso playing well when he gets the chance which is great sign and Kuzma coming back fairly soon now it seems.

He looked like the best in the game for stretches out there. Dominating sequences on both ends.

Waving off Bron to take it coast to coast. The monster jam from Cook. The in play blocks. And let's not forget about the 3s. Considering how he's been struggling with his J, those were a great sign. Anthonthree Davis.

Look like he jammed his shoulder on that missed dunk. Shouldnt be anything too serious, if at all.

AD showed it was NEVER about a few million dollar trade kicker by walking away from the super max that New Orleans could have offered him.

    I mean, you’re obviously right—but good luck.

these guys make so much now that the contracts only matter as bizarre points of pride for the superstars.

people clowned dirk for taking less to field competitive teams in Dallas, but I mean, dude has made 100 million plus—what’s he gonna buy now?

If he timed an extension right (3yr 30%max extension till ‘22) then sign a 35%max bag, he would only be short about 13-16m projected from his 5yr supermax deal that would have kicked in next season.

Again it’s not really the money that I’m hung up on...it’s locking him up so now if he does want to leave we still get something via trade.

He could still want to leave if he was under contract (see New Orleans example) or we could still get assets for him if he was amendable by doing sign and trades at the end of the year. As other team have done in the past. Sure there’s a chance he could leave for nothing at the end of the year but I’m not going to spend the next 9 months worrying about it everyday. I just don’t see the point. There’s is absolutely no one on this board who is unaware of how you feel. I can’t imagine what you want others to say or do at this point. Please enlighten me if there’s some reason for rehashing this, that is somehow going to change the past.

I’m not here to upset folks.

You made a comment about the trade kicker and I’m assuming it was commentary directed towards my opinion on the matter. So I addressed your post.

I actually agree with you that it’s not completely about the money cause turning down the supermax means he lost potential money. I just want to point out that it’s not as much money as some may think.

But more importantly, if you have a star and believe they’re a franchise cornerstone, you want to keep them here long-term and cut out any of the games or the b******* which both free and pre agency has been of late. So locking them up is kind of important. Had it been done, you don’t have to constantly look to the summer. You can just concentrate on team-building and getting into June. Cut all the distractions out.

So now what do we do about it? Make AD happy and don’t f*** it up. How?..well you know my position (and his) there as well. Don’t want to rehash that either.

And I’m not enlightening anybody...I’m only discussing a different perspective for those that are willing to engage. If anything, I’m the one getting enlightened.

Only when it makes sense. We have mobile centers that are better equipped to handle the "loads" down low.

I’m not here to upset anyone either. You have your opinion and though it differs from mine, it is well thought out
and everyone on this board is entitled to express their thoughts. It’s a DISCUSSION board after all. Mine only issue is that
we can not go back in time and change the past. So I just don’t see the point in constantly rehashing the same subject over and over again.

Appreciate your thoughts and I agree, I will try to actively restrain myself from rehashing how the cap game could have played out this summer.

But never say never Cook. Since he waived his kicker, we can entertain extension talks with AD 6 months after the trade, placing us in January 2020. We can talk renegotiating his contract till the end of Feb, but then can’t do so from March to June.

Since AD makes 27.1m, we would need 5.6m in cap space to renegotiate his deal to 32.7m, which would be the 30%max. We’re sitting on 115.5m in team salary with a salary cap set at 109m...so we’d need to get to a team salary of 103.4m to have 5.6m in cap space to renegotiate AD to the max.

So let’s say we do a trade where we shed about 12m (Kcp, Daniels, Dudz) then we got the cap space to renegotiate and extend AD.

Anyways, it’s unlikely but we can STILL do that scenario.

    :Adlaughing:
